This is really an interesting topic. So many of us want to bring back crypto and repeal the law banning it, and then many others also gave examples of things they would love to have banned as well. The thing is while crypto is awesome for the masses, it’s terrible for the government. Because the more people hold their assets in crypto, the less control the government will have over them. After all, if you really want a man under your thumb, control their purse strings.
That is one reason I don’t see them lifting the ban on it anytime soon. Government is all about centralization and crypto is anything but. Both go in different directions and getting them to reconcile might not be as easy as it would seem.
Well, since many of us have talked about how they’ll lift the ban on crypto, I’ll talk about something else I’d love to lift the ban on. And that’s wearing of Camouflage by civilians.
I don’t know if this was officially banned by the government, but if you live in Nigeria, then you probably know a person or two who has been brutalized and harassed just because he was wearing camouflage. It doesn’t matter the kind of camo you wear, as long as it’s a blend of green, you’ll be beaten up and the dress will be taken from you. Yeah, if you have no money to buy other clothes on the spot, you’ll have to go home naked.
Please note that I’m not talking about soldier’s uniforms, those are army green and they’re different. It’s also illegal to wear them, which is understandable. I mean the camo that was designed strictly for fashion. When you see them on a person, there’s no way you would think they’re in the army. There is a camo that is mainly white and some that have a black background with varying colors.
As a result, no one wears any form of camo anymore. The idea might be that it’s to stop those impersonating soldiers, but if I’m being honest, anyone rocking a Gucci Camo or Louis Vitton Camo will not be taken seriously in my books. Everyone will know at once that you’re not a soldier.
I remember a time when a close friend of mine was harassed by a soldier. His camouflage was not even in any way close to that of soldiers. Matter of fact, it could be argued that it wasn’t even a camouflage, because it was more of a blend of green on black than the different shades of green Army camo is known for. So, there was no way at all it could be confused for camo.
Still, my guy had his living daylights slapped out of his face and the shirt was taken from him. There and then, he had to buy another shirt, or he would have walked home bare-chested under the hot sun.
There are so many stories of how people have suffered for this, and today, you’ll barely see anyone attempt to wear a camo. Except in movies and music videos. And even at that, you have to be careful about the kind of content you share with it, so you don’t disrespect the uniform. Because that is punishable by law.
I love the army and all they stand for. After all, they defend us against threats within and without the country, and their sacrifices will always be remembered. So, if I could, I’d just adjust the ban only to army green so that other forms of camo will become mainstream and be used by the public.
I could be wrong, but this will help ordinary citizens in becoming smarter security-wise. As it is now, anyone wearing camo will be regarded as military personnel, it doesn’t have to be army green. So far it’s a camo, then we just assume they’re military because no one else will dare it. And you know the implication of this, it means people can easily impersonate and use that to ride others.
However, when everyone knows the true army colors, they’ll be able to tell it from the fake because they already see people wearing them all around them. After all, bandits and terrorists that have been hitting the nation all do it wearing camos. We need to get to a point where just by looking at someone in camo, we’ll know if they’re an ordinary citizen, a soldier, or a criminal element.
But then, I could be wrong. Those who made all camouflage illegal for civilian use surely knew what they were doing. And over the years, their tactic worked. Everyone that’s not a soldier is now scared of that color. In time, we shall see how things unfold. I guess that’s all we can do at this point.
