Hello Hive Learners!
Here's my entry for the contest; Freelancer or Full-time employee.
Full-time employment does it for me.
Although they both have their perks, I'll rather work as a full-time employee than as a freelancer.
My father worked as a civil servant until he retired, asides him I know some other persons who work as either employees or freelancers and are doing quite well for themselves.
Overtime, I have watched them and asked questions on which side they find beneficial.
Based on these findings and my personal opinion, below are a few reasons why I choose full-time employment.
Steady source of income
As a full time employee, I do not have to worry about where my next paycheck is coming from. I'm sure of a fixed amount of money being paid to me on a particular date. I can easily budget my funds and plan my finance accordingly.
Mentorship/Office skill training
Working under a company gives me the opportunity to learn the 'hows' and 'whys' of a particular trade/job. Some companies also send their employees out for workshops which could help them grow.
Also, being an employee(not the boss) makes me follow rules, teaches diligence, humility and
Knowing that one could easily be laid off and replaced by someone else almost immediately makes them sit up at their job and work harder.
Scheduled work hours.
People who work a full-time job know that within a particular time, they should be at the job. It helps them strike a balance between their work and personal life. It just makes for stability.
Benefits and allowances
When you become a full-time staff, you are entitled to all of the on the job benefits like; sick leave or vacation (which could be for a stipulated period of time), Christmas holiday, Christmas bonus, furniture allowance, house allowance, transport alliance, meal allowance/subsidy, annual increment. Sometimes these benefits are extended to members of your family like the educational allowance for your kids.
A company may not offer every of the benefits mentioned above which may be because it isn't generating enough income. Nevertheless, you are assured of getting a handful of them.
Insurance
Some companies offer health benefits and plans to cover medical bills and help with unplanned circumstances.
Loan grant
Some companies offer car loans, land loans, bicycle loan etc which would be deducted in bits from one's salary.
Job Security
As a freelancer, half the time, you have to scout for jobs but when you work in an organization, for the most part, the job comes to you.
Many people would prefer to do jobs with companies than just one person not just because the company has a 'name' for itself already but also because they want an assurance(something to hold on to) if the ship sinks.
Retirement benefits.
Once you get retired, you are entitled to gratuity and in due time pension which could help one take care of themself for a while and probably set up something for them.
There are so many reasons why I'll pick full-time employment. The above is just a few. What do you think?
There! You have my entry.
Thanks for reading.
Goodday!
