Today, after over a year, if I'm not mistaken, I had the maltina drink. And I promise you, it tasted different and it confused me if it felt so to me because I had not drank it in a while or because my taste buds were taking recognition of something different that they hadn't in previous times.
Until this moment, I still have the lingering after-taste of the drink. I can liken it to taking the bitterleaf juice. You know that after a while, the bitter taste metamorphosis into something appealing, yeah? Like so!
The malt had some almost too-sweet taste. Same malt that younger me used to consider bitter and would pick soda over.
I was beginning to think that I had a problem or it was either the getting-older hormones at work. You see, of late, I've been aversed towards certain drinks and biscuits and all of those other sweet-sweet things I used to like back then. I know that I've been that way since ever considering that I always preferred cabin or digestive/hobnobs biscuit to every other, yet, this time, it gets even severe. I almost never ever reach for all of those sweet treats. I always jokingly call them diabetes or say that I am too old for all that.
As if a coincidence, I was binge watching some videos on YouTube, one of which was about malts and surprisingly, the moderator talked about the high concentration of sugar that it contained. Then it all made sense to me.
I've known for the longest that most processed foods and drinks contain some high amount of sugar but malt? Who would have thought so, taking into effect that we all believed it was a healthy option hence the reason why elderly people reach for it. Was a surprise. I want to delve into describing all of the effects of sugar, especially excessive consumption of it, but, I think we're already aware of them considering the mass sensitization owing to some of the prevalent illness in this present day of which many can be linked to it.
Meanwhile, I don't have a sugar addiction. I like tasty things like ice cream and cakes but I rarely ever get them. Last year, from the month of April through to half of October, I had soda literally everyday. The year prior, from August to February, I never had a taste of sofa neither sugary stuff(maybe a couple times and in little amounts but that was all) amd I could tell you for certain that I know the differences between those times. Sincerely, I never gave to do anything to control my sugar intake. From my lifestyle, consunption mode, maybe I should even be on sugar-minus.
Every of my best drinks and snacks taste almost sugary to me now. Of course, sugar adds some spice and taste to certain edibles and I don't know how well they would come to be without it, but in certain instances(like tea drinks), I replace with milk. Seems a better option to me. This doesn't mean I'd rather do bitter stuff. Oh, I won't. I'd rather not have much sugar and sweeteners.
For drinks now, I do mostly Yoghurts and from findings, it's a much healthier option plus the taste is appealing.
But, if I have to use sugar(rare, theses days), I don't take in too many cubes as I used to back in the day. No adverse effect has led me to be this way. We can maybe say that my taste buds evolved.
Thanks for gracing this post.
Greetings!
