Just like everything that has an advantages do have disadvantages. Social media has both but when we comprehend it well,the advantage is much more than the disadvantage infact most things wouldn't have disadvantages but the nature of man abusing things won't allow that .
Social media has been a place of fun for people, we make friends , interact with people we never meet,an exceptional means of advertising and a lot more. What makes it now more intriguing is when they started monetizing on it. That is, you get paid for your contents on it. This innovation has really helped a lot of lives especially this country that produce graduate every year with no job opportunities at all, It has given hope to some hopeless . It has really been a life saver to many people.
As good as this social media is some people have use this opportunity of livelihood to go as far as condemning another's person work and career,end someone livelihood just because they want to.make content that will have a lot of engagement because that is what they pay for, they focus only on their benefits not minding its negative effects. People become monitoring spirit and makes people uncomfortable just because they want to send out news about the person, some has lost their dignity,exposing their bodies to social media "that never forget" whereas they are not what they claim or who the society think they are but the do it all for engagement .
You get paid for your content either fake or real,this has made alot of people Just share lies and fake news that even real content looks fake but the amazing part is people knowing fully the content are fake and still follows and engage on them saying they just like how it makes them laugh or just bcos the author is beautiful,just because they grow likeness for that person,all what she does is acceptable by them .
What is sad is people now even engage more on this fake and destroying content more than an initiative and relevant content,this makes this content creators that posts lies continue. Even if social media accepts any content, if the fake and bad ones do not get views,that is people see they are fake and do not engage like liking and commenting on them ,will those content creator continue? No, but they continue because they are getting the views so it is not their fault but the viewers faults ,we have to do better to make a better world . Reason why we are not getting it right are because we fail to disregard things that are not right, we succumb to being deceived.
So, is monetizing social media the worst thing that has ever happened to social Media or the worst thing? . I will say it is the best thing that happened to social media because many lives that has been helped,saved through this means cannot be overlooked and meant a lot.
