Good day, amazing people of Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompt on social media.
Social media is a platform where people share their ideas and opinions and the things happening around them. I see social media as the voice of the masses. It has transformed some individuals and also destroyed some individuals. When it comes to social media, I am always careful of the information I pass there so that I will not put myself in trouble and bloggers will retweet my word. A post or a comment can actually cause harm either to your job, school or personal life.
If there is one thing I hate so much, it is to be called out or dragged over a post or comment I made. On several occasions people have been dragged online, and the outcome was not fun; some of them were arrested, while some of them paid heavily for what they posted.
Social media gives us the opportunity to air our voice; most times those voices may put us into trouble. It is no longer a new thing that our country doesn’t like it when the truth is being said, and whoever comes and says the truth, there is a consequence.
I have this friend of mine who was dismissed from work because of what she posted about her company on social media. The company dragged her because they didn’t find the post nice. There is no company or school that is not after protecting their brand and reputation; even if it means dismissing a worker, they will do that.
Like I said earlier, I am always conscious of things I post on social media; they can go viral and put me in a serious problem that I can’t handle. I always have one thing at the back of my mind: the internet never forgets. That’s why I take extra care when it comes to social media.
The opinion we share on social media should not be enough reason for dismissal, more especially when it is coming from a concerned individual. Dismissing someone for sharing opinions on air is a harsh punishment; it will only be fair if such a person is trying to spoil the reputation of the company.
When it comes to social media, there are things we should not post online for our own good. I understand that social media gives us that platform where we can easily express ourselves. It is very necessary to think before you post. Most people's lives have been ruined because of what they post online, and some have paid heavily because of their posts.
Conclusion: We should be very careful of the things we post online. Remember that the internet keeps records; don’t just come online and post. Think before you post. Remember we are in that part of the world that when you speak up, you are in trouble. Always use your head and not your emotions. Note that this is not everything that will be shared on social media.
This is my response to the weekly prompts for the #hivelearners community #hl-w171e3 topic, social media.
