They are spending but it's not reflecting. Pixabay image
Ask me again what the Nigerian government spend on, and I will keep telling you I'm confused. It's not that we the citizens are not hearing the figures and what they are proclaiming it's used for but the question is "Are we really seeing anything or maybe we can say "is it really effective"?
I would't want to go far from what is happening recently in the country. There are many tangible things the government has spent on that seems abstract to people because of its ineffectiveness. The educational system is collapsing and the government push funds to the sector every now and then. Anyways, that's by the way. Lets's go recent
Preparation and money spent by INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepared for the 2023 election before hand with a budget of 305 billion Naira estimated for the projected expenditure which later was increased to 355 billion Naira by the INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu in 2023. With the hope that this would help the INEC officials carry out the necessary obligations, all Nigerians kept their fingers crossed and head up waiting for the election to come and see the officials in action according to their promise and the support given to them by the Nigerian government

BIVAS not working
Like seriously, how many Nigerians believed the story of BIVAS not working? The INEC chairman made a bold claim that there would be transparency by uploading every result from each pooling units immediately the election is over, but did it happen that way? There was various uproar from the intentional attitude of the chairman towards not uploading the presidential result as he could not give any serious reason the result was not uploaded as promised. Looking at the amount spent on the electoral materials which has no effect, we can categorically say it all amounts to a waste or better still say the fund was misappropriated
We had issues of unavailability of BIVAS in some pooling units and also cases of shortage of BIVAS after spending billions of Naira (hundreds of millions of dollars) preparing for the election. That's quite absurd. We also saw a situation where there was no table for the INEC officials to use. The patriotic Nigerians had to provide all the equipments (Ink, pen, chairs and so on) before election could hold in some pooling units.
Nothing seems to work accordingly for the benefit of the citizens
Billions of dollars is spent on projects yearly and we keep going round and coming back to the same problem the money was used for every year. Electricity issues is still on ground after pumping how many million dollars to the sector. Huge amount of money was used to print new money and we are here buying money at high rate in the country. Nothing is really working in this country. I just hope we can learn to do things right and manage whatever is within our disposal well for the benefit of the populace.
