Modernization swoop into society with a lot beneficial innovations and ideologies which has contributed to the advancement of the human populace. These new developments have only fostered success in the society but have changed too that sets apart this generation from the pre-existing structure years ago. One of these changes is the perspective of Gender Equity.
Gender Equality has become one of the most popular belief systems in contemporary society. It is slowly evolving from just an idea into a culture that centers on fair treatment and equal opportunities between both the female and the male gender. From the very beginning of human history, one particular gender i.e the female has been treated as an inferior to the male. Previously, woman were excluded from participating in elections, had limited civil rights, restricted from crucial opportunities that would have changed their lives and we're even perceived as just individuals with the sole purpose of completing the home, reproducing and handling household chores even when they had the potentials for something more. However as society continued to progress, these outdated believes are begining to lose their values. People no longer see women as tools to be trampled on (although some still do) without a voice to speak for themselves. Women are even flag bearers with life-changing contributions in every societal field.
They can now exercise their franchise, own companies, building nations and even leading them with families of their own. These are all superhuman feats that have been made possible thanks to the tenets of Gender Equity.
There have been large misconceptions from extremist trying to corrupt the tenents of these belief. This is not an ideology that strives to put men and women as the same rather it emphasizes on leveling the playing field so that both genders can participate without one or the other feeling cheated and ensuring that neutrality becomes a global anthem.
Being part of a family with three elder sisters, I grew up a complete advocate for this very philosophy as personal interactions with them made me understand their struggles better. Yet as I grew older, it became clear as day that complete gender equity will never be possible and the only state both parties should fight for is EQUALITY OF OUTCOME. As much as this very structure represents equal treatment and opportunities between men and women, it is quite obvious that attaining these results are somewhat impossible as some opportunities and treatments are somewhat gender specific and so one will definitely benefit more from them compared to the other.
A few months ago I went out job hunting and decided to apply for a receptionist post at various hotels. A lot of them turned down my application solely because I was male and there was literally nothing I could do about it. One hotel even included specifics to their vacancy sign strictly saying it was only going to hire only ladies and the only hotel that was willing to employ me opted to make me a guard because that role was made heavenly just for men🤣🤣🤣. Things like this happen all the day there are opportunities that rarely comes to either the male or female because they are deemed unfit for it, sometimes they don't even want to apply and this by default setting they fall on the legs of predominantly one of both.
I am not saying that there are not situations where one sex breaks gender barriers to defeat the odds but the statistics still falls to 20 out of a 100%. We can hope for equality of outcome where both genders can try to produce the best results according to their abilities but not expect them to operate as equals because they are clearly not because even with equal opportunities, one gender will still dominate in a particular field over the other no matter the amount of effort out into it.
