We can't overemphasize the importance of having a skill; it's a lifeline when things begin to get rough in one's life. I know that so many people are cashing out through the internet, but what if the internet stops paying suddenly? What happens to people whose whole life is on the internet?
I remember when we were growing up, as soon as we finished school the next thing any reasonable parent does is to register you to learn a handwork immediately. Before you even think of applying for JAMB, you will spend about a year learning sewing, hairdressing, catering, or even how to make shoes and bags.
But these days, people see hard work as a waste of time because of the internet. Everybody is looking for an easy life without stress, easy money. Nobody wants anything that will stress them. But if all of us focus on the internet, who will repair the toilet, fix the electricity, make hair, and do other things?
If you have ever worked in a toxic environment, nobody will advise you to have a handwork, especially work with no job security. I have a hand work, so I don't get scared at all if the internet decided to stop today.I will just go back to catering, baking cakes, and coming up with different healthy recipes.
I didn't learn how to cook from anybody. You know, this idea that if your mother is cooking, she will drag you to the kitchen as a female child to learn cooking. I didn't like it at all, so anytime someone wanted to cook, I always had reasons not to be in the kitchen. So I was tagged as the person who doesn't know how to cook.
Until one day, I was asked to cook porridge yam as a means to spite me. My uncles were already laughing because they knew I hate the kitchen. But I shocked all of them that day with my cooking, and they were asking if anybody assisted me. What they didn't know is that my late grandma would always drop a recipe and just a few directions, or no direction at all, for me and then leave for the bush market. Again, I hated cooking with someone, and the person would be sending me up and down.
I will go in and make the food without disturbance, and it will come out great. I have already developed a passion for food. But i didn't want anybody to turn me into their personal chef, so I acted out of place. I bake and cook for occasions. I am not good with taking pictures. I believe my work will speak for me soon.
Aside from being a good caterer, I still learn new recipes every day and try them out. Thanks to YouTube, I won't have to worry about staying updated with different recipes and ideas. I also know how to do makeup well; the only problem I have is that makeup kits are very expensive, which is why I haven't started practicing it.
But I do my friends' makeup sometimes, and I do mine too. Although I want to apply for more classes, there is money in makeup and catering. You can always open your own physical shop, and customers will still come.
