Hi everyone, Welcome to my blog.
Only a fool, they say, keeps doing the same thing and expects a different result, and with respect to this, I would like to talk about the system of governance in my country.
Often times people say that government is bad and doesn't care about the well-being of the people being governed. Before the current government in my country came into power during the election campaign, it seemed like the whole nation or the majority of the masses supported a particular candidate until the election results came and we found that that candidate wasn't the winner of the election.
An occurrence that has taken place in the past more often than not is the fact that the majority of the time in my country, the most popular candidate does not emerge as the winner during elections.
The reason is because those candidates who later emerge as winners in the election would have done so. a lot of underground work there, thereby causing a lot of people to change sides This has gone on for so long that the current situation of our economy seems to be nose-diving because of incompetence in governance.
What happens most of the time is you find out that on the day of the election, the common man who comes to cast their votes is cornered and given an amount to buy their votes. This is so sad because the question I always ask is when the person who bought their votes comes to power and things begin to deteriorate, if that money is able to buy them salvation or if they are being given some sort of preferential treatment because they were the ones who voted.
Another concern is the fact that most people say their religion does not allow them to participate in political activities, but in reality, they are not exempt from whatever turn the economy takes when a new government comes into place. What I have come to realize is that our inaction or lack of action towards a particular thing is an action of silent consent.
If there must be a change to the current downturn of things, then we have to take action, and what kind of action? People need to be aware that leadership goes beyond now, and so they must learn to ask questions during these election campaigns about the aspirants goals for the present and the future. This way, people will be able to tell the leaders that have good intentions and will be able to hold those leaders responsible by their words.
Also, those people who normally sell their votes need to be generally sensitized to the need to consider the future that awaits them and their children by selling their votes.
Furthermore, people who seem to hide under the covering of religion and say they are praying irrespective of their religion must also know that their lack of involvement is a consent to whatever happens post-election, and they cannot criticize it because they were never involved.
Lastly, the electoral system needs to automate the system of voting to optimize result credibility because you cannot passively create the future you want, but you have to actively be involved to create the future you want, and as we gradually approach the end of this current tenure of government and elections draw close, actions must be taken to ensure that whoever will emerge as leader is someone who has the best interest of the people.
This is my response to the HL-exclusive contest.
Thank you for stopping by.
