My interest in Automation started a year ago while I visited a friend's house. Samuel is one of those friends who hardly talk, make friends or post online. He is a little bit timed, but even though I noticed that, anytime we talk, I always seem to learn something new.
While I was at his place , he received an email indicating that a payment had just entered his crypto wallet. He clicked, checked and cancelled like it was nothing but I saw it, $2,500 worth of Ethereum. I was amazed and asked him what he did to get that amount as a one time payment.
He smiled, then he explained calmly, how he helps businesses set up automated systems for foreign clients and gets paid really well for it. The part that hits me the most is that, he does everything on his laptop and in the comfort of his room. No traffic. No 9–5 stress. Just skills, laptop, and steady dollars.
Since then, I never stopped thinking about it. So when I saw this writing prompt: “pick a skill to learn in one month, all resources provided”, the answer was loud and clear: AUTOMATION
Why automation?
I will choose automation because it’s the future, it saves time, it makes life easier, and it will take a long time for the market to get saturated. The demand for the service will always be more than the supply because not everyone can pick up the skill because of its technicalities, and most importantly it pays because nowadays more and more businesses are jumping on automation, it’s becoming the norm, and not a luxury.
Imagine you own a small business, and every day, you have to reply to the same customer questions, send reminders, post on social media, send invoices, follow up with leads... And so on. Now imagine all of that happening automatically even while you are asleep. Mad stuff, right? But that’s how deep automation goes.
Have you ever wondered how, when you make a transfer on your phone or even when you go to the ATM to withdraw. Some time, even when the cash is yet to come out of the machine, you already get a SMS with the accurate details of the bank account(s), amount withdrawn, amount left, time of withdrawal or transfer and so on, regardless of the number of customers the bank has, and the number of customers making transactions at the exact same moment. That is an example of an automated system.
You can automate just about anything, from email marketing, to following up on lead, to client onboarding, payment confirmations like the bank example I gave in the last paragraph, even social media posts. Trust me, these examples are just a tip of the ice bag.
Samuel once showed me how he set up an entire funnel for a fitness coach, from Instagram adverts, to the landing page, to the email series, to booking calls, all fully automated. All the coach has to do is, log in and see new clients lined up.
Apart from the pay (to be sincere, 70 to 80% of why I would go for automation is because of the money), automation makes absolute sense. Let’s be real, business owners just want less stress and more results without hiring extra hands.
From what I’ve seen, automation helps to cut down mistakes, saves time, and makes it easier to grow a business without hiring more people. That’s a big win if you ask me. Trust me, when people see that your skill and services helps them save time and money, they will be willing to pay you without even blinking.
Can I really learn it in a month?
Like I mentioned earlier, automation requires being able to perfectly solve technicalities. Something that people will easily run away from, but I believe that I can get a solid understanding on the basics, especially if I’m focused and have access to resources with a mentor that is willing to guide me through. I can start with tools like Zapier, and integromat. I would search for someone who has a good understanding of automation and teaches well on YouTube, I can even ask Samuel to give me real customers needs and past project tasks so that I can practice with what the market is demanding for at the moment
It might not be easy, but it’s not impossible. Plus the fact that, I have Samuel to disturb if I get stuck 😁.
To conclude.
Honestly, all I want is a skill that gives me freedom to work from anywhere, on my own terms, and still earn crazy good money. This is why, if I had one month and all the tools I need, I wouldn't hesitate going for automation. At least one consistent learning month should be good for a headstart
