Are you one of those people who can't put your cell phone down during the day? I've never stopped to think about it, but I think that my cell phone use takes up a lot of my time. Of course, there's time to work and study, but whenever you have that precious time, your cell phone is there in your hand. This has become such a big dependence that its excessive use can cause serious problems over time.
I often say that my generation is the last one that wasn't born and raised glued to a cell phone. I remember my childhood, when I was literally playing and having fun on the street and at school. It wasn't until my early teens that I started to have my first cell phone and, as you know, compared to what we have today, mine was quite limited and could only make calls and send text messages.
Nowadays, with smartphones, we have everything we want in the palm of our hand. It's really incredible how much this type of technology has evolved in the last 20 years. Although using a cell phone is quite important and necessary, I have noticed how much this silent addiction is causing serious problems in society as a whole.
Excessive Use Harms Our Mental Health
Not only cell phones, but excessive use of computers can also cause problems for our mental health. Anxiety and stress are just some of the consequences of using them beyond the limit. But when is the limit? To what extent do we know the best time to stop? Well, here at home I have to always be careful with my children's cell phone use.
In addition, I try to set times for them to use them, because if I don't do this, they might spend the whole day playing and playing on their cell phones. In some situations, I noticed how much they showed anxiety for not having their cell phones with them. My oldest son started biting his shirt in the collar and we started to realize that this was a sign of anxiety.
Fortunately, he stopped doing this. Imagine how many shirts, including new ones that he had barely worn once, he decided to bite and leave those little holes. Thank God he really stopped doing this and without a doubt the cell phone was the reason for this. I believe that some of the games he played made him very anxious and it was important that we intervened so that he stopped doing this.
Here at home, there are some toys, including Lego, which for me is a hobby. When they don't have their cell phones, I always remind them to do something else that they like, like playing. Being a child is great and missing out on this phase of life without experiencing it can cause some cognitive and social problems when they reach adulthood.
How Long Can You Stay Away from Your Cell Phone?
I haven't done any kind of "empirical test" to find out how long I can go without using my cell phone, but I know that I can control myself. But without a doubt, the first few minutes will be tempting for me to start using my cell phone again, because this type of need is already part of me and my brain is already used to having my cell phone nearby.
I can imagine that if for an adult, spending some time away from a cell phone or even a computer makes it difficult to deal with being away from these electronic devices, imagine for a child or teenager? The challenges are even greater and for them to have emotional control is even more challenging.
Therefore, it is important to set limits from an early age so that the child grows up and can avoid silently becoming addicted to excessive cell phone use. Having a life away from technology is becoming increasingly difficult because our environment is full of all kinds of technology, but it is important to seek a certain type of balance and go for walks and even play with your own children, in addition to leaving beautiful memories, it will also contribute to everyone's mental health.

Você é uma daquelas pessoas que não largam o seu celular durante o dia? Eu nunca parei para analisar, mas eu acho que meu uso com celular consome um bom tempo do meu dia. É claro que existe o tempo de trabalhar e de estudar, mas sempre que você consegue aquele tempo precioso, o celular está lá em sua mão. Isso já se tornou uma dependência tão grande que o seu uso excessivo pode causar problemas graves ao longo do tempo.
Costumo dizer que minha geração é a última que não nasceu e cresceu grudado em um celular. Lembro da minha infância que era literalmente brincar e se divertir na rua e na escola. Só no início da minha adolescência comecei a ter meu primeiro celular e como sabem, em comparação com o que temos hoje, o meu era bastante limitado e só ligava e mandava SMS.
Hoje em dia, com os smartphones, temos tudo o que queremos na palma de nossa mão. É realmente incrível o quanto esse tipo de tecnologia evoluiu nos últimos 20 anos. Apesar de que é algo bastante importante e necessário o uso do celular, tenho percebido o quanto que esse vício silencioso está causando sérios problemas na sociedade como um todo.
O Excesso de Uso, Prejudica Nossa Saúde Mental
Não apenas o celular, mas o excesso de uso no computador, também pode causar problemas na nossa saúde mental. Ansiedade e estresse são apenas algumas das consequências de um uso além do limite. Mas quando é o limite? Até que ponto sabemos a melhor hora de parar? Bem, aqui em casa tenho que ser sempre atento com o uso de celular dos meus filhos.
Além disso, tento estipular horários para eles poderem usar, pois se eu não faço isso, é capaz deles estarem o dia todo mexendo e jogando no celular. Em algumas situações, eu percebia o quanto eles demonstravam ansiedade por não está com o seu celular. Meu filho mais velho começou a morder sua camisa na parte da gola e a gente começou a perceber que isso era sinal de ansiedade.
Felizmente ele parou de fazer isso. Imaginem quantas camisas inclusive novas que ele mal tinha usado uma vez e ele resolveu morder e deixar aqueles furinhos. Graças a Deus ele realmente parou de fazer isso e sem dúvidas o celular era o motivo disso. Acredito que alguns jogos que ele jogava o deixava bastante ansioso e foi importante nossa intervenção para que ele parasse de fazer isso.
Aqui em casa existem alguns brinquedos inclusive Lego que para mim isso é um hobby. Quando eles não estão com celular, lembro sempre para eles buscarem fazer qualquer outra coisa que eles gostam como brincar. Ser criança é muito bom e perder essa fase da vida sem uma vivência, pode trazer alguma problemas tanto cognitivos e sociais quando chegar na fase adulta.
Quanto Tempo Pode Ficar Longe do Celular?
Eu mesmo não fiz nenhum tipo de "teste empírico” para saber quanto tempo consigo ficar sem mexer no celular, mas sei que eu consigo ter controle de mim mesmo. Mas sem dúvidas os primeiros minutos poderão ser tentadores para eu voltar a usar o celular, pois esse tipo de necessidade já faz parte de mim e meu cérebro já está habituado em ter meu celular por perto.
Fico imaginando que se para um adulto, ficar um tempo longe de celular ou mesmo do computador, temos algum tipo de dificuldade para lidar com o afastamento desses eletrônicos, imaginem para uma criança ou adolescente? Os desafios são ainda maiores e para eles ter um controle emocional é ainda mais desafiador.
Portanto, é importante desde cedo impor limites para que a criança cresça, podendo não se viciar de forma silenciosa com o uso excessivo do celular. Ter uma vida longe da tecnologia está sendo bem difícil cada vez mais porque o nosso meio é repleto de todo tipo de tecnologia, mas é importante buscar um certo tipo de equilíbrio e passear e até brincar com os próprios filhos, além de deixar lindas lembranças, também vai contribuir com a saúde mental de todos.
