When illness knocks on the door, everyone becomes eclectic.
The title of my article set the tone for the conversation, and we really do need to talk about this. To talk about the health industry, which can often be translated as the death industry. The one that sells dreams, that manipulates hope.
Who wouldn't want to take a pill that removes all pain? Or a joy pill, to cure the illnesses of the mind? It would be great if such medications existed. But for now, we live with our reality, sad and painful. For the things that have no medicine for sale, we must take action. Make it happen: act!

eclectic: one who selects what seems best from various doctrines, methods, or styles.
When illness arrives and there's no treatment or cure, we all leave behind our beliefs, values, and begin to desperately seek any thread of hope that comes our way. And if the treatment or cure isn't found in conventional medicine, we start searching elsewhere.
This search is what I referred to as being eclectic. Because we search in any available option for something that gives us comfort and the mere possibility of improvement. A kind of non-conventional treatment becomes tolerable. I speak from the West, and from here I can say that a common avenue of search goes through what we call acupuncture:
acupuncture: a form of alternative medicine and a branch of traditional Chinese medicine in which fine needles are inserted into the patient's body.
I know several people who have undergone acupuncture in pursuit of health improvements they couldn't achieve using standard Western medicine. A search that doesn't involve medicine, doesn’t involve actions, just the courage to face the process. (This, in a simplified way).
I myself have sought out acupuncturists to improve my sleep quality. My wife sought out professionals to reduce her chronic migraines. So many other people searched, and many are friends, looking for other types of pain relief, and also out of mere hope for diseases whose cure is beyond anyone’s reach in the land of the living.
Far beyond the process itself, acupuncture demands from the patient a moment of pause, a moment in which they must completely stop with their body, disconnect from almost everything physical. This moment can be complicated for some people who suffer from anxiety and other disorders, while at the same time, it can be the best part of the process. Being alone and facing your own thoughts, with no way to run from them.
If you’ve gone through the process, you can reflect and perhaps agree with me that far beyond the needles, what remains in the patient is the moment of inner reflection. And this can be achieved without needles, which is quite liberating, as the greatest lesson we can draw from the process is precisely the part where it’s up to you to face your subconscious, your wild and untamed thoughts, and choose to act on them.
This is a true life change.
To sum up, at some point I stopped going to the acupuncturist. Probably as soon as I realized that the best benefit I could gain was having those moments of confronting my own thoughts. And that I could do from the comfort of my bed, which has no needles.

O título do meu artigo deu o tom da conversa, e precisamos sim falar sobre isso. Falar sobre o indústria da saúde, que muitas vezes pode ser traduzida como a indústria da morte. Aquela indústria que vende sonhos, que manipula esperança.
Quem não gostaria de tomar uma pílula que removesse todas as dores? Ou uma pílula da alegria, para curar as doenças da mente? Seria ótimo se tais medicamentos existissem. Mas por enquanto seguimos com nossa realidade, triste e dolorosa. Para as coisas que não existe remédio a venda, precisamos tomar atitudes. Fazer acontecer: agir!

eclético: aquele que seleciona o que parece ser melhor em várias doutrinas, métodos ou estilos.
Quando a doença chega e não existe tratamento ou cura, todos deixamos nossas crenças, valores, e passamos a buscar desesperadamente por qualquer fio de esperança que chegue até nós. E se o tratamento ou cura não está na medicina convencional, começamos a buscar em outras fontes.
Essa busca é ser eclético que mencionei. Pois buscamos em qualquer opção por algo que nos dê o conforto e a mera possibilidade de melhoria. Uma espécie de tratamentos não convencionais passa a ser tolerável. Falo do ocidente, e daqui posso dizer que uma forma comum de busca passa pelo que chamamos de acupuntura:
acupuntura: é uma forma de medicina alternativa e um ramo da medicina tradicional chinesa no qual finas agulhas são inseridas no corpo do paciente.
Conheço várias pessoas que se submeteram ao processo de acupuntura visando obter melhorias de saúde que não conseguiram usando a medicina padrão ocidental. Uma busca que não envolve remédios, não envolve ações, somente a coragem de enfrentar o processo. (Isso de uma forma simplificada).
Eu mesmo já procurei por acupunturistas visando melhorar minha qualidade do sono. Minha esposa procurou os profissionais para diminuir sua enxaqueca crônica. Tantas outras pessoas procuraram, e vários são amigos, visando outros tipos de alívio de dor, e também por mera esperança para doenças cuja cura não está ao alcance de ninguém no reino dos vivos.
Muito além do processo em si, a acupuntura exige do paciente um instante de pausa, um momento onde ele precisa parar totalmente com seu corpo, se desconectar de quase tudo que é físico. Esse momento pode ser complicado para algumas pessoas que sofrem com ansiedade e outros transtornos, ao mesmo tempo que pode ser a melhor parte do processo. Estar sozinho e encarar seus próprios pensamentos, sem possibilidade de fugir dos seus próprios pensamentos.
Se você passou pelo processo pode analisar e eventualmente concordar comigo que muito além das agulhas, o que fica marcado no paciente é o momento de reflexão interior. E isso pode ser conseguido sem agulhas, o que é bastante libertador, sendo que o maior aprendizado que podemos extrair do processo é justamente a parte que cabe somente a você encarar seu subconsciente, seus pensamentos mais selvagens e não domesticados, e decidir agir sobre eles.
Isso é uma verdadeira mudança de vida.
Para resumir, em algum momento eu parei de ir ao acupunturista. Provavelmente tão logo eu tenha percebido que o melhor benefício que eu poderia colher seria ter os momentos de enfrentamento aos meus próprios pensamentos. E isso eu poderia fazer no conforto da minha cama, que não tem agulhas.
