How many times have we accepted "taking the blame" for something we didn't do, simply to end an argument? And how many times do we regret giving up reaffirming that we are right, when we see that the result of it all was in vain?
When I think about being penalized in some way in favor of another person, I can easily realize that this happens more than I imagined. Whether at work or in relationships, we accept a burden that is not ours to provide some good for others.
In my travels around Hive, motivated by the essence of the FreeCompliments community, I have met many people who seek to expose their difficulties through writing. And how many times have I seen these people suffering because they gave in to others, who didn't know how to reciprocate or recognize them. Even with words of comfort, it is not easy to heal a stabbed heart.

Taking over tasks from another colleague at work
It has often happened that I have taken on tasks that were not my responsibility, in order to help a colleague. It wasn't that he didn't know how to do the job he was assigned to do, nor was it due to lack of time or urgency. Imagine being willing to take on a task simply to balance your workloads.
You won't make yourself available to receive more work, this is counterintuitive. Why would anyone do this? Because you will only do this voluntarily when you care about the other person! This is the key to reasoning.
Because you care, you will assume that you are also important to her, as if reciprocity were natural.
Reciprocity is not guaranteed!
So you put yourself in this situation and are satisfied, thinking that if one day you happen to be overwhelmed, your colleague will also make himself available and take on some task.
But that doesn't happen!
And you wonder why the person doesn't realize that you helped them at one point, and now it's you who needs help! And for some time you will keep waiting for the person to realize that you need help. Maybe after more time you even question her, and ask her to help you, as if it were payment for her previous help.

And if it gets to that point then everything has lost its meaning, and it no longer makes a difference whether you will be helped or not. Your relationship will probably be shaken and everything will change, for the worse. They will move away and little by little they will be further and further away.
Conclusion
We often act guided by our feelings and take actions that benefit other people, in the hope that they will also have good attitudes towards us when necessary. But this almost never happens.
So we wonder where we went wrong, and the answer may be easier than you think: we made the mistake of trusting too much. We make the mistake of projecting onto others a feeling that only exists within ourselves.
And that's why I suggest that you remain neutral in work matters and don't take unnecessary risks to help "colleagues" who will turn their backs at the first opportunity!

Aos meu sempre amigos da comunidade HiveLearners, minhas melhores saudações!
Quantas vezes nós aceitamos "levar a culpa" por algo que não fizemos, simplesmente para encerrar uma discussão? E quantas vezes nos arrependemos de abrir mão de reafirmar estarmos certos, quando vemos que o resultado disso tudo foi em vão?
Quando penso em ser penalizado de alguma forma em favor de uma outra pessoa, posso facilmente perceber que isso acontece mais do que imaginava. Seja no trabalho ou nos relacionamentos, aceitamos um fardo que não é nosso para propiciar algum bem para o outro.
Nas minhas andanças pela Hive, motivado pela essência da comunidade FreeCompliments, tenho conhecido muitas pessoas que buscam expor suas dificuldades através da escrita. E quantas vezes eu já vi essas pessoas sofrendo por ter cedido em favor de outros, que não souberam retribuir ou reconhecer. Mesmo levando palavras de conforto, não é fácil curar um coração apunhalado.

Assumindo tarefas de outro colega no trabalho
Muitas vezes já aconteceu de assumir tarefas que não me cabiam, visando ajudar um colega. Não que ele não soubesse fazer o trabalho para o qual foi designado, nem por questão de falta de tempo ou urgência. Imagine se disponibilizar a assumir uma tarefa simplesmente para equilibrar as cargas de trabalho.
Você não vai se colocar a disposição para receber mais trabalho, isso é contra intuitivo. Por que alguém faria isso? Pois você só irá fazer isso voluntariamente quando se importa com a outra pessoa! Essa é a chave do raciocínio.
Por se importar, você vai supor que também é importante para ela, como se a reciprocidade fosse natural.
A reciprocidade não é garantida!
Então você se coloca nessa situação e fica satisfeito, pensando que se um dia acontecer de você estar sobrecarregado, seu colega irá se disponibilizar também e assumir alguma tarefa.
Mas isso não acontece!
E você fica se perguntando por que a pessoa não percebe que você ajudou ela em um momento, e agora é você quem precisa de ajuda! E por algum tempo você vai se manter esperando que a pessoa perceba que você precisa de ajuda. Talvez depois de mais tempo você até questione ela, e cobre que ela lhe ajude, como se fosse um pagamento pela sua ajuda anterior.

E se chegar a esse ponto então tudo perdeu o sentido, e já não faz mais diferença se você vai ser ajudado ou não. Provavelmente o relacionamento de vocês estará abalado e tudo irá mudar, para pior. Irão se afastar e pouco a pouco estarão cada vez mais longe.
Conclusão
Muitas vezes agimos guiados pelos nossos sentimentos e tomamos atitudes que beneficiam outras pessoas, na esperança que elas também tenham boas atitudes para conosco quando necessário. Mas isso quase nunca acontece.
Então ficamos nos perguntando onde erramos, e a resposta pode ser mais fácil do que você pensa: erramos em confiar demais. Erramos em projetar no outro um sentimento que só existe em nós mesmos.
E por isso eu sugiro que você mantenha-se neutro nas questões de trabalho e não assuma riscos desnecessários para ajudar "colegas" que na primeira oportunidade irão virar as costas!
