Hello and welcome to my page. I'm @daniky and here is my entry to the weekly featured content for week 10 edition 3. This post is in response to the question which states;
"Over the years, the idea of freedom of speech has seemed to evolve. While people are free to speak their minds, they are also restricted to the kind of things they can say. What are your thoughts on this? Especially how it affects us presently?"
From the part of the world I originate, freedom of speech is known to be one of our fundamental human rights as a citizen of Nigeria. Despite the fact it is so, it's quite a pity that most of my country citizens are not allowed to exercise their fundamental human right due to a breach of the constitution.
It's well known and admitted that Freedom of speech is non applicable as military rulership is concerned, but it becomes an issue of concern when it gets hard for a citizen to have his or her Freedom of speech as such, all these are peddled around the term "centralisation". A civilian government that is supposed to be ruled by one voice of the people for the betterment of their community is now hijacked by greedy and powerful politicians whose aim is to milk up the national treasury and render the governing system unbearable for the country citizens.
HOW LACK OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH HAS AFFECTED THE CITIZENS
When the ordinary man becomes marginalised in his country he becomes unhappy and cheated. He may not be able to carryout any activity within his freewill and imagine if such a situation is happening to many men within a country, this might less to chaos and serious war.The following are repercussions the lack of freedom of speech has caused to many citizens today;
- Low self-esteem
- Unemployment
- Poverty
- Cultist
- Gansterism
- Corruption
- Underdevelopment
- Favoritism of leaders
- Conspiracies
- Inordinate ambitions of bad politicians
- Indiscipline among leaders
- Greed
- Impediment of technological growth
- Censorship
These above and many more are repercussions lack of freedom of speech may lead to. So there's a need to be free from censorship and wake up from our slumber. Our voices must be heard and it's very important it should, because a tree can never make a forest". When the floor is opened for everyone to contribute, trust me, there will be growth and development in our land and our lives in general.
From my above content i hope you've been able to see what the lack of freedom of speech may result into, and as well see the need for us all to have our freedom of speech and live off censorship.
