Honestly when we were children we did so many annoying and funny things out of curiosity, we always wanted to know things that didn’t really concern us, we may as well as landed ourselves into trouble by doing things that we were not supposed to do. To be honest I feel like curiosity sometimes is like a disease, some people just naturally have it while others learned to have it, I have seen so many cases where it has led people into trouble.
For example, this happened to my brother so many years ago, our neighbors children were fighting seriously , a boy and a girl, and my eldest brother was around, he wasn’t the type that would always go out to see why people were fighting but this time I guess he was just curious, we have never seen them fight so seriously, by the time brother got there he couldn’t bear it, he started to separate them, the girl got seriously angry and took a knife from the kitchen with the intention of stabbing her brother , but the knife landed on my brother’s hand giving him a big cut, since then he never wanted to know what has happened or what has happened between two that them to be fighting.
In my own case, when I was about 6 to 7 years old, I remember vividly how I drank a cup of vegetable oil thinking it was palm wine, lol.. that fateful day my dad bought the palm wine when he was returning from his road trip, the palm wine was inside a 4litre white gallon, and mum usually keeps vegetable oil inside that same type of gallon, so when my dad and mum and elder siblings were drinking it, they said it was really sweet.
I was so curious and really wanted to know how it tasted, I told my dad to give me some to taste, but he refused and said that the drink is not meant for kids and that it will make me sleep off, but I wasn’t satisfied with the theory my dad gave me, so after some time, when they were done drinking the wine my mum kept it in her room, but I didn’t know the particular place that she kept it, so I sneaked into the her room and I started looking for the wine but unfortunately I found the vegetable unknowingly.
Immediately I just gulped the oil thinking it was the palm wine, i spat it out immediately, my mum caught me spitting it out, she just shooked her head and laughed, the next thing she said was “if it was poisoned now thats how you would have drank it”.
She said it was as if she knew that I would come looking for the palm wine that was why she hid it, that was I drank vegetable out of curiosity. Since then I learnt how to follow instructions, I don’t allow myself to do things out of curiosity, and from my brother’s story I learnt how to mind my business and stay out of people’s fights.
