Week 38 was very exciting with lots of interesting contest titles discussed this week. There were so many participants who took part in the contest and that's why the contest in week 38 was very crowded. In week 38 we just passed the first edition successfully and this time we will enter the 2nd edition in week 38, and as previously announced, the title of the contest in the 2nd edition is a very exciting topic to discuss, which is in the form of a comparison between Ebooks and Paperbacks, of course everyone will have their own choice regarding these two comparisons, so do I and this time I will explain my opinion in this post, so let's take a good look.
In this world there is a lot of knowledge and learning that is very useful, and even some of them cannot be found on the internet. One of the most common media used when we are in the teaching and learning process is a book. A book is an object that has been used for a very long time, even from our ancestors, to record knowledge, writing, history, poetry, or the like with the aim of perpetuating it, and also becoming a knowledge that can be shared with others. Recording something in a book gives us convenience, flexibility, and also keeps the knowledge from being lost. Indeed, all knowledge comes from human thought, but if humans have to share it without going through books, they will often forget it or they have to take pains to memorize it.
Talking about the ease of obtaining knowledge that has been recorded in books, this is of course very helpful, especially for those of us who do research and development of science, we don't have to meet the inventor or the person who initiated a science because they have recorded it in a book that is they publish. The price of a book is also not cheap, the price varies depending on the knowledge contained in it and all of them are still classified as expensive. Indeed, we will lose most of the money to get the books we need, but all of that is not comparable to the knowledge we get, of course, and all of them the slight mobility factor makes conventional books less desirable today. To answer all of this, today we are known as e-books, which are electronic books that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. E-Books can be accessed only via a laptop or even a Smartphone, the prices are not too expensive compared to the original books, making E-Books very popular in modern times like today.
The first point that makes e-books very popular is in terms of mobility. As I discussed a little earlier, the mobility factor is the most important factor in using this e-book, e-books can be accessed anywhere and anytime, this is of course very related to our current lives which we prefer to stay online even though we are in various places. Apart from that traveling with lots of books is also not a preferred choice even though we can sometimes do it, this is because a lot of books will certainly take up a lot of space and be a little heavy, that's why we will carry bags everywhere even when relaxing in the park even if we carry a lot of books.
The second reason why E-Books are better than conventional books is in terms of storage space. It is undeniable that conventional books sometimes have very large sizes, this is reasonable considering that there are so many articles that are loaded, because of the factor of this large size, we inevitably need shelves for our books, sometimes the best option is to store them in in a warehouse, chest, or even a special room filled with stacks of books we have read.
Things like this are really avoided by people in modern times, they still want to read books but with a room that is not littered with books, in this case E-Books offers a solution to this problem. E-Books can be easily accessed, even if we have a lot of books in it, we will not lose them because they will be stored online and we will get them back as soon as we need them, all we need is our smartphone and in it can store hundreds or even thousands of books, and if you want to read them in the park, you just have to put your smartphone in your pocket.
Isn't this a convenience...?
The third point is accessibility, of course conventional books that are neatly arranged in the library will confuse us with tall bookshelves and even make us get lost in the piles of books. For those of us who want to find a book with a certain title and author, we will definitely meet librarians and they will also need the help of their computers to find the book we mean. In addition, this accessibility also refers to page markers and where we last read them, of course this would be very inconvenient if we lost our bookmarks while reading a book in the library because many people also read the book.
E-Books are back with a solution where users don't have to worry about accessibility issues, we only need to type the desired book title or author and then we can read the same book that millions of people are reading, even at the same time. We can also make a bookmark if we want to continue reading the next day, and this bookmark will not disappear even if there are millions of people reading the same book as us when we don't read it.
In conclusion, E-Books offer a lot of convenience and mobility that is very necessary for people in this modern era, we can also read our favorite books wherever and whenever we want.
But for me, the most important thing is the content contained in the books we read, according to their function, books are a means of sharing knowledge, whatever form it is, where do we get it, as long as the content is useful then the book needs to be studied and stored properly so that other people also have the opportunity to gain the same knowledge as we do.
