A Recent Encounter With A Scammer
Encountering scammers is no longer a new thing, it's something some of us come by almost every day. Social networks were created for fun and other activities that will help us grow but unfortunately, some individuals have made it a place to scam those who are gullible.
I have come across many scammers on Facebook and WhatsApp, I am just grateful that the experience of others has taught me a lot, So I am being extremely careful. Although I was scammed through Ponzi schemes a couple of times, it hurt badly but I am also grateful that I had such an experience.
Last week, I got a direct message from a friend on Facebook and it doesn't look as it used to. I know the way I and the person used to chat. But this person was just dropping strange questions, I thought of putting a call through to my friend to know what was going on but then I didn't because I was so busy.
Subsequently, the person asked if I had seen her recent post on an investment she made recently, and when I saw that I laughed hard. The truth is I have heard about people being scammed on Facebook and other social platforms all in the name of investment. My spirit already told me that it was a scammer.
So I decided to waste her time as well, I told the person that I didn't see the post, and she went and screenshot it and sent it to me, I exclaimed wow, acting as if I was interested. She then asked me if I was interested and I said "Yes, I am". She quickly sent me their investment packages, five thousand to profit fifteen thousand, and so on.
She asked which one I would love to go for, and I replied "I would go for the least," she said "Okay" and then sent me a link to chat with her administrator on WhatsApp for registration and investment. I took some time and later told them that I ran out of data, they should subscribe to my phone or send me airtime to buy data so that I could access my digital bank to make transfer into the account they gave.
I was so disappointed by her response, she said she doesn't have money, and that I should do it myself so that when I am enjoying the money, I won't misuse it 🤣 can you imagine? how can someone who just withdrew fifteen thousand naira not have airtime to send me to buy data? If what you are trying to show me is genuine, at least a hundred naira shouldn't be a problem. She started showing me screenshots of evidence of payments, and she said I should stop being scared, she knows it's fear that is causing all these things, I should go ahead and do it and I won't regret it.
After viewing that, I sent a lot of laughing emojis to her and blocked her. A Few days later my friend who has the account called me as was like Hope you didn't invest anything through my account? I said "No," "Thank God, Someone hacked my account" she replied. People are mean, and everyone is struggling to get what to eat, if getting money is easy, why won't they go and hustle for themselves? Any money we get from scamming people is cursed and we will definitely face the consequences.
The funny thing, these guys are not ever ready to stop, they now see it as a source of income, and it is now left for us to be wise. We need to be careful with all these online investments, dating, and the rest. I rather invest in crypto and patiently hold till it pays than invest in some schemes just because it pays double within a short period of time. Sometimes it's even our greed that gets us scammed. We don't want to labor but we want to profit large.
I was lucky in my case with that scammer, some people weren't, and some of those scammers are using spiritual powers to control their clients, please we need to be very careful and prayerful as well. The best advice I give to people with regards to this is don't reply to anyone chatting with you in a strange way about investment. And stop following those investment links on social media, a lot of them are scamming links. It hurts a lot when the little you try to keep for yourself is taken from you by someone who doesn't know what you went through to earn it.
