The male are considered the head, strong and first authority while the females are considered weak and expected to submit to everything.
But as time went by, things began to change, we became enlightened and our eyes were opened, it became obvious that what we believed about gender is not completely true.
Either genders can play any role and still be fine. We might have different physical features but we are equal, and deserve to have the same rights.
Women stood their ground to get back their respect and rights as men in the society and am glad they are gradually taking it.
Nowadays, women are accorded the same rights as the men and it seems fair to me.
We are all humans, each of us deserves the same right, regardless of gender. The same respect, the same opportunities and liberty.
Some years back women were not usually allowed to contest for political positions, not that it is stated in the constitution or condemned directly, but indirectly they were denied the right as they were not recognized or voted even when they contested for certain positions.
Reasons like they are weak, slow and have family which might serve as distraction is usually brought to back it up but are women really, slow and distracted by family?
For some women yes, but some are smart, strong and wise and can hold power. Thank God for civilization, some of those beliefs are gradually fading away.
Nevertheless, one thing I feel people get wrong is the issue of sharing responsibilities.
This is my opinion though, since all genders are now considered equal, responsibilities are also supposed to be shared equally and fairly.
I am saying this because some women in relationships or marriages believe that the man is supposed to take 70% of the family responsibility while they take 30%
Some women believe that men are supposed to provide food, shelter, clothing and lots more and their role is only to raise the children, cook and tidy the house.
In relationships you will see a lady expecting a guy to settle all her bills and when it comes to her to support him financially she steps aside.
I am not trying to disparage women, I am not against any gender but I am saying this out of experience from what I see happening in my place.
Most women can be supportive in cooking, giving attention, and time but when it comes to financial support, they don't come through.
My friend was telling me how his girlfriend said that when they get married, her money is hers but his money is for the family.
I felt bad hearing that because I believe that in marriage or relationships, it's supposed to be 50/50 even when it comes to our finances and responsibilities.
I feel that this is one of the reasons why some marriages crash, the man or the woman is doing almost everything alone, when the load becomes too much the person would definitely break down but if the two come together and play their role as expected, that relationship or marriage would be great.
Whether male or female, support is supposed to come from both sides. Both male and female should play their role and no one should form being weak.
If things are done this way, I am sure our society would be a better place and seriously, life would be easy for us.
