My Take On The Pros And Cons Of Civilization

For everything that has an advantage, there is also a disadvantage, this is one saying I have found to be true over the years. No one can deny the fact that civilization has done us more good than harm. Many years ago, we heard stories of how our forefathers suffered in their days. Should we talk about war, slavery, hunger, polygamy, or even evil traditional practices? I must say we are more than lucky to be found at a time like this.
The Good side
One of the things I am so grateful for in civilization is the coming of technology. Technology has advanced the growth of mankind on earth. In as much as it has its bad sides, if it hadn't come into existence, I wonder where man would have been today.
Agriculture practices have improved and have been improving over the years because of technology, we now have improved breeds of crops and animals as well. Something that originally took six months to grow can now be harvested within three months.
How about agriculture machines like tractors, bulldozers, harvesters, and so on, instead of man dissipating a lot of energy in cultivating his farm, there are now machines that are specialized in doing those things for him, all he has to do is just give the machine instructions and that's all.
Smartphone is another thing, today phones are the deal of the day. With your phone, you can access people from different parts of the world, work within your home, communicate with people while seeing them, and so on.
I won't lie, the coming of the smartphone has done me good, so far so good I have not had a very good friend like my phone. I know people say phones are breaking human relationships, that's true but it's better I have my phone than have some kind of people in my life. Moreover, I have made more friends through my phone than I have physically. I have made friends from other countries and states through my phone. If it were physical, I know I would not have had that privilege.
The Bad side
Inasmuch as civilization has done us so much good, it is also doing us harm. One of the the things civilization has ruined is morality. In the days of our parents, morality was key. People know what it means to respect the dignity of others and their selves. Today, we feel we are too educated, wise, and rich and as such we can do anything we want to do.
People no longer respect even their bodies, if you go on social media you will see all manners of indiscipline. People advertising nakedness, calling it fashion. The young no longer have respect for the old. No one even wants to follow the process anymore, people are just in a rush to get things done.
We now see the right way to live as boring and old-fashioned, no wonder, young people die young these days. I wish our eyes would be opened to see that what we call old-fashioned or old-school is the right way to live.
Lessons
Both experiences taught me to appreciate whatever comes my way and to always watch my life in order not to be carried away. It also made me understand that most good things have bad sides too.
