Well, I have been there many times. Too much of everything is bad. It is good to work, it is good to be serious and intentional about whatever we do in life but when we do it without giving ourselves some break to breathe, it becomes toxic.
Some people work from January to December, go to school for four to five years, and just when they graduate, instead of taking some time to regain themselves, immediately, they continue, and keep going until they realize that they have just been chasing their dreams working and themselves out and never took some time to enjoy themselves.
I love work and I love education to the core, however, I don't also joke with breaks.
Life is not supposed to be all about business, as much as we need to work and keep money flowing, as much as we need to study and acquire knowledge and certificates, we need to also take some time away, forget about all that we have to do and regain ourselves.
It is sad how some people end up spending their lives only on work and never get to enjoy life until old age.
I believe it's due to how critical the issue of break is that people are usually given leave at work.
Even soldiers whose work is so tight and demanding are usually given passes from time to time to rest from work. Doing one thing over and over without a break for a long period of time makes it boring, sometimes, it even makes one mess up.
With this, I think taking a gap year whether from school or work is crucial for growth. Many people during that time don't only rest but build themselves, upgrade and come back a better version.
I have a friend who is into forex trading. Each year, there is a particular period of time he sets aside for break, he keeps all his live trading tools far away and only uses a button phone.
Most times after such breaks when he comes back, he becomes a better person, and his trades become outstanding.
I feel it often happens that way because during that period of break, a lot that he lost while working was recovered, his sanity, his peace and focus.
Taking a gap year is important for everyone. I know sometimes we might not have as long as we want, many people would love to have a year but end up with months or weeks.
I think that's okay too because sometimes when the break becomes too much, it ends up complicating things, it makes work or studies somehow complicated for a while when we eventually come back.
This is why some people think taking a gap year is detrimental to our growth. The truth is rest is good but when it becomes too much, it becomes a problem, they say too much of everything is bad. Even good things become bad when they become too much. But a little measure is more than enough to make everything balanced.
