Gooday fellow Hivers. am so glad to be part of this contest, I hope you and your families are all sound? It is the second Edition of week 26, stay tuned.
In life today, things have gotten so tough and challenging that almost everyone is after money and physical rewards. We prefer to work and earn than to work and be told thank you and God bless you at the end
, infact trouble has so taken the place of human kindness that, a man can not work and be paid less than what he feels he should be paid, he need the money in full. Well it is not our fault, situations have caused things to be so. I am not saying that we should work and then refused to collect our entitlements, ha! Hunger will kill you and poverty will burry you. When we work, we deserved to be paid so that we can continue to exist. But there are exceptional cases where we do not need to collect money or any form of reward even after exhausting our energy. Some of those cases may include : community renovation and sanitation, rendering religious services, helping the needy, organizing sensitization services, holding community positions, like community chairman, treasurer, Public Relation Officer (PRO) and e.t.c. such services are for free. There are other forms of voluntary work, which I didn't mention, works which we do for free and not received any dime from it or sometimes receive something less than normal.
My Experience
Well I love voluntary work a lot but the truth remains that, we can not do voluntary work all the time, meaning we can't depend on voluntary work for survival, therefore we can only render such services when we are free.
I have several experiences on voluntary work, I have worked in many places for free and I was happy doing it. There is joy in giving services out for free. Below are few services I rendered for free.
- Ushering at my church : I know you might say ah! What is this one saying, I thought!! Please don't think yet 😁. In the year 2019 I went for holiday at plateau State Nigerian. while staying there, I joined a church named Lord Of Host Harvest, there were many ushers in the church of course, but I needed to find a means that I could offer my self unto God and the best place I could do, was at the ushering unit. I know there is a lot with ushering, people would talk to you anyhow, look down on you and so on. I hope you know that ushering in the church is just like a house help at home? I have to sweep the church, clean the podium, mop the stage, tidy the chairs, arrange the place and make everywhere look decent and ordely and the last one is I have to scrub the toilet too ha! Ha!😁😁 It is for God's people and I would do it with all my heart. I would wake up very early every service day and go to church before everyone, sometimes I go and meet our Head of Department, already waiting and together we do the work. In my sweet outfit I would fold my sleeves and go to the toilet and scrub it, wash everywhere and make it neat. Do you know what? I love doing that work, infact anyday am not on duty I use to feel bad and deprived of something. All these I and my colleague do for free, receive insults and harsh response from members for free and yet we are happy doing it. Should I be honest with you? I feel more fulfilled and happy rendering that service. The blessings and prayers I get from my pastor is more than a million naira any body could gift m. seeing men and women sitting in a conducive atmosphere to worship God is more than gold🙃
Also when I left plateau and returned to Nasarawa, I joined the youth fellowship in my church, I also use to help the ushers to tidy up the place, before service commences even though I didn't join the ushering unit but I do come out on my own will and help them perform their functions. One thing we don't understand about voluntary work is that the reward is huge though eyes can not see it and hands can't handle it. I know the number of great men and women I met through ushering that changed and transformed my life. I can't forget My Head of Department at plateau state in ushering that has helped my life so much that I don't have words enough to appreciate him, in Nasarawa I met a woman who gave me a job, I didn't know she was taking note of me, I don't know her from Adam but she collected my number phoned me and gave me a job. Life is beautiful, it is not all the things we do that we should receive money from.
- Community work: in my community once in a while we do clean up, and repair places that have spoiled, during those days, no one would invite me but I would go and join them and do the work, pack dirt's and repair spoiled roads, cleaning drainage systems and e.t.c. No body would give you a dime at the end of the work. The only thing you might get is either sachet water or kunu (a local juice). Everyone's safety and health is my concern, having a neat, peaceful and healthy community is worth more than money. I have met new people and new friends through that free service. Today nothing happens in my house and people in the community don't come over, if it is a feast they celebrate with me, if it is mourning they cry with me.
voluntary work strengthens relationship among people
.on a normal day, if you help me do something for free, it would be very unkind of me to see you in trouble and neglect you, even Satan would not do that. I love doing voluntary work and if you have not done it before please try it and see. If we must pay or get paid for every little thing we do then it is a clear evidence that there is no love and unity between us.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog, I am indeed grateful. Do not forget to engage the comment section, let me know what you feel about voluntary work.
