It is my natural state of mind to be kind towards others, probably it has something to do with my spiritual self but mostly it is just who I'm. Helping others has always been something I enjoy doing not that I expect anything in return I just enjoy watching people smile after getting what they were desperately in need of. it is no doudt that I have been blessed in numerous ways through the help I render to others, I guess it is good to be good Mostly during this time of the year a lot of people engage in giving out items both monetary and emotional support. it is mostly done as a sign of good will and appreciation for the Lord's mercy and blessings.
As an individual who comes from a Christian family, my family and I take on a lot of activities during this time of the year which I have shared in my previous write up. one of the activities we engage in during this time of the year is to give out valuable items to those in need. it could be anything ranging from clothes to food stuffs and all. though we do not engage in this activities directly, our part is just to donate necessary items to the church which is something every member of our church gladly participate in. it is then the duty of the congregation to select few volunteers to go to different orphanage homes, prisons and some areas to distribute the items contributed. It has always been a tradition we all participate in every years.
Apart from that, like I said earlier being kind to others is something I enjoy during which doesn't necessary has to do with a specific time of the year. if I'm to to consider what I can do this holiday has an act of being selfless, then it will be no other act than this. three weeks ago I went to school for my clearance which I wrote about in a post After I got a notification from my school that we can now start our clearance process and documentation for NYSC mobilisation. it was something I couldn't even afford to postpone despite the fact that I knew it will cost me a lot of money but I had no choice. I have been awaiting this announcement since February this year but unfortunately due to reasons best known to my school management, our final year second semester result was delayed for almost a year. As a result of this I had no choice but to await their announcement for me to proceed.
immediately I got the notification, I head straight to school and I was aware of how costly clearance process is because I have been through it during my national diploma. I took some money which I had already prepared for clearance. I got to school made the necessary payment and proceeded to documentation, everything was going has planned till the unexpected happened which took every student by surprise.
Generally the clearance payment total cost is ₦15500 {$21} which seem quite cheap compared to other schools but the thing about this amount is that as of last month our school policy doesn't make it mandatory for student to pay for convocation and certificate fee before going for service but every thing took a drastic turn when suddenly this week on Monday, my school management announced that some of the policy regarding clearance payment has been renewed, as a result of this it has now become mandatory for every student to pay for certificate and convocation before proceeding to documentation for mobilisation.
It felt like a joke at first but gradually we realise it wasn't, a memo was circulated through departmental platforms. the most tragic thing about this is that the amount for certificate and convocation is not cheap at all. it cost ₦35000 {$45}, adding to the previous amount which is ₦15500 {$21}. the new total amount for clearance is now ₦55500 {$71}. though I have prepared some cash for emergency but this amount was beyond my expectations. luckily for me I was able to gather some funds quickly and make use of it for my clearance but this was not the case for many students.
As a result of the drastic raise in the clearance fees most of my colleagues could not get their clearance done this year which means they won't get mobilised until they are able to complete their clearance payment. The student union tried protesting against the raise but it did not have much effect because a lot of student Prefered to just pay and get on with their lives, so those that did not have enough to pay where not up to the numbers of student willing to pay for the extra clearance fee added.
With the little I have I tried to assist some of my friends by giving them some money but it just wasn't enough, probably I would have given them more but I was also affected by the new development. I tried my best to assist others in ways I can to the extent I made use of my printer to print documents for them for free. regardless of how much support I rendered it was not enough. if there was something I can do to assist more student to get their clearance process done I would have done it already. I will keep helping those I can with the little I have.
