One of the most hyped holidays in my family is Christmas due to a lot of activities attached to it. like I have said repeatedly in my previous write ups. this time of the year is the only time all my relatives gather in one place and we tend to celebrate it in a majestical grand way. Christmas have always been the most celebrated holiday in my family since before I was born but there was something I noticed that occur in every household during this time of the year. normally there are a lot of traditions practiced across the country depending on individual perspective of the season or culture but there is a particular one that not many people pay attention to the reason why it is done, we just practice it like it is normal. well to an extent it is.
Growing up in a Christian home means days such as Christmas day are highly anticipated and prepared for prior to the Christmas day. The kind of family I came from have abundance of livestock animals which has been piling up over the years mostly considered as a family business. Before the growth of the livestock farm managed by each individual of the family got to this extent. it all began as a small poultry in front of the house and the reason for this is quite simple. When I was a kid I noticed that around October my dad purchases poultry chickens, as at that point because the festive period is yet to be near the chickens does not cost much.

Apart from that compared to chickens kept In the poultry for purchase, our own chicken that was bought from the poultry at the early stage tends to be more healthy due to the rate at which we fed them. the purpose of buying and raring the chickens till December was never for sale. it is specifically meant for Christmas which happens to be the most celebrated holiday in my family. the more I grew older I realised during time of Christmas somethings might not be available in our household but we will always have chickens.
At first I thought it had some kind of religious attachment to Christmas just like Muslims tend to kill rams on Salah day but I eventually I found out it was not so. the most weird part of it is that it is not as if it was only my family that tends to keep chickens for Christmas, it is Christmas tradition practiced in most Christian home I'm aware of and some of you can testify to it? based on the high demands for chickens during this time of the year it has made it a lot expensive especially during this time of the year because sellers know that it is something that is highly consumed during the holiday season.
It is one of the reasons why I also want to venture into poultry chickens due to the high demand for it in my area. as a child I kept thinking about it for a while, questions such as what exactly did chickens do wrong that they have to be slathered massively during this time of the year? is there something I'm not aware of? I never really found any answer to this question and I'm sure some of you would have thought about it also, why is it always chickens? 😂to show how much people love slaughtering chicken during Christmas. even if they purchase other kind of meat for Christmas they will still purchase chicken to add to it😂.
I'm sure if chickens could be allowed to have a say in this matter I'm sure they would have asked the same question, why exactly are we getting slathered? 😂. As hilarious as it might sound it is one of the holidays tradition that I never know why it is being practiced probably because chicken is cheaper than the rest of the meat but that will be a lie there are other affordable meat compared to chickens. I never really thought of asking anyone just to get answers to satisfy my curiosity because I don't want to be laughed at.
It is not as if I would love it to stop it, I mean what will be my reasons from stopping such a tradition, I'm not sure you are aware but if you have read my previous post this week you would know how much I loved consuming chicken legs as a kid. it was something I couldn't do without because the bones were easier to chew. moreover this tradition has served as a source of income for many people who have taken advantage of the high demand for chickens during this time of the year to make profit for themselves.
Moreover can justice really be achieved for the chickens? well that is something I will let you take your time to think about.😅
