Volunteering and community work offer a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the world around us, while also enriching our own lives. By reflecting on our personal experiences, making a commitment to give back, and incorporating volunteering and community work into our daily lives, we can create positive social change, develop a sense of purpose and fulfillment, and cultivate a sense of gratitude and appreciation.
There was a time that I helped clean the community, all the youth had a meeting and we decided to come out that Saturday to clean our environment, some people were against the idea of cleaning the environment because of their status in the community but some of us volunteer to come out and make it work.
It was on Saturday morning and I got a call from the youth leader, we all came out and cleaned the environment, after cleaning we noticed that there were potholes in one of the roads that lead to our community, we decided to fill it with sand because it may cause an accident for people if care is not taking.
Doing community work doesn't mean we are not big in our ways, I love to join anything that has to do with my community because I am finding the growth and peace of my community, living in a community is not just by waking up and going back to sleep, we must participate in anything that has to do with the development of the community.
There was a time I suggested that anyone shy of coming out to clean the community would always pay a fine for it, it would be a heavy one and it should not be monetized, everyone concurred with the idea, I witnessed this when I traveled to my village If there is any Community project everyone should be out to participate unless you have a genuine reason for not be part of it.
I love to always volunteer to help in my community, also there was a time when we needed funds to dig a borehole in the community, we always experienced dryness during the dry season, and Everyone always suffered for water we all decided to dig a borehole in the community but we were shot of cash, I came up with the idea of demanding for help from our politicians and people who are well to do in the society, we drafted the letter and I took it upon myself to type the letter and started to distribute them.
We were visiting from one office to the other for this project to be visualized, some people ignored us while some helped us, we were able to dig three boreholes in the community and this has been helpful to everyone, though the borehole wasn't free but the payment is very minimal and affordable, the money generated for fetching from the borehole is always used to fuel the generator and pump the water also part of it is used for maintaining the borehole.
Making myself available is one of my greatest joys when it comes to community work and it has been helping me as well, people always come together to help me whenever I am in need, I have met dignitaries through community work and all this happens because of my contribution and unrelenting effort I put into it.
