Reward is a means of encouragement, it is a way to appreciate such students to keep on trying their best and also encourage others to sit up in their academy, it may not be necessarily money, it can either come in the form of a scholarship or any other means if such child is still in secondary level.
One thing that I have odd in my country is that we celebrate all the programs that never add value to our lives, we know how much people are giving to Big Brother to sponsor the show and the show is just a meaningless one, so irritating and non-educative, if we can use the same energy to invest in education, giving scholarships to young children who are very vibrant and concern about education then this country would have been a better one than this.
I am not saying it is wrong to invest in entertainment but education should come first, it is paramount that we invest in it, some years back I read on social media that a guy graduated with first class in one of the most reputable universities in the country, on the convocation day the governor of the state was present and gave the guy #5000 in naira, not dollars and the following year the same man gave the winner of big brother #50 million for emerging the winner and also gave him a house in one of his estates, this is very bad, does that mean he never encourages education or entertainment comes before education?
In my opinion, I will never suggest a cash reward at all, there are so many ways in which money can be useless, how long will the money last? If we are to give a reward let it be a reward that will last long for them let it come in the form of a scholarship, pay the school fees to the last level, or give them a befitting job after graduation.
Some people only have the brain to read not the brain to manage, not everyone can make use of money effectively, some are very poor in spending and that is when family problems will begin to surface, but if they have a promising job that can change their lives then is greater than money.
Giving cash is never a way to reward someone for their effort, at some point money will finish if not utilized well but investing in their future will always make them do more, they wouldn't want to disappoint the person who is sponsoring them.
I will not encourage giving cash, this is never a way to motivate someone who puts his or her energy into being the first in the class, for example, those people who have been winning Big Brothers and get away with cash prices what do they do with the money? Most of them are clubbing, buying cars, going into music which doesn't last for a year then that is the end of the names in the country, what of the children that are representing the country do they compensate them at all?
Money will always fade, problems will always arise for them to solve when they are giving money but investing in their future will always be a blessing to them, it is a means of motivating and appreciating them for putting their best into their studies.
