Noise pollution is something we often overlook until it becomes a daily struggle. In my area, the biggest source of noise is construction, and it happens every single day without fail. From morning to evening, the sound of drilling, hammering, and heavy machinery fills the air. It’s loud, disruptive, and impossible to ignore.
At first, I thought it would be temporary, maybe a few weeks or months. But it has been going on for so long that I can’t even remember what peace feels like. Every day, I wake up to the same deafening sounds, and it’s slowly driving me crazy.
There is a developing estate near my house, they started to work a few months ago and it has been like hell for everyone living in the area, the noise is unbeatable, everyone struggles with it but there is nothing we can do about it.
How does it affect my daily life
I usually wake up around 6AM, hoping for a few moments of quiet before starting my day. But that rarely happens. It's as if the workers are not sleeping, the moment I open my eyes, I hear the sound of machines roaring outside my window. Sometimes, it’s a drilling rig for drilling boreholes, if you have experience with how drilling rig works then you would know what I am talking about. Other times, it’s a bulldozer moving heavy materials back and forth. Either way, my morning starts with noise, not peace.
One day, I had an important online class scheduled for 10 AM. I planned everything perfectly, woke up early, prepared my notes, and even set up in the quietest corner of my room. But just as the meeting started, so did the drilling. It was so loud that I could barely hear what the lecturer was saying. I tried muting my mic when I wasn’t speaking, but the moment I unmuted, people started asking, "What's that noise in the background?"
It was frustrating and embarrassing. I couldn’t focus, and by the end of the meeting, I felt exhausted from trying to block out the noise. This isn’t just a one-time thing, it happens all the time. Whether I’m working, trying to read, or even just relaxing, the noise is always there, making everything harder than it needs to be.
The worst part? There’s no real solution in sight. There are supposed to be regulations about noise levels, especially in residential areas, but they don’t seem to be enforced. The construction workers keep going, no matter how loud it gets. Complaints have been made, but they don’t change anything. The authorities prioritize development over the well-being of residents, and we’re left to deal with the consequences.
I’ve tried almost everything to deal with the noise. Closing my windows? Doesn’t help. The sound is too loud and still finds its way inside. The only real option is to get used to it, which is easier said than done. There are moments when I just sit there, overwhelmed by the constant noise, wishing I could escape. But where would I even go? It’s not like I can move to a quieter place overnight.
Will It Ever End?
That’s the big question. Every time I think the construction is almost done, a new project starts. First, it was road repairs, then new buildings, and now another structure is being worked on. It feels like a never-ending cycle of noise and disruption. This is getting too much, I wish something would be done quickly. I wish I could say I see an end to this, but I honestly don’t. The only thing I can do is hope that one day, peace will return. Until then, I’ll just have to keep dealing with the noise, one day at a time.
