In this case, Several issues could arise from the possible privatization of basic services like water and roads, especially about affordability and equal access. I will share with us the possible advantages and disadvantages of privatizing water and roads.
There are benefits we are going to have or experience by privatizing this infrastructure which is private companies will improve maintenance and Efficiency, the fact that private companies are motivated to keep infrastructure in excellent condition is one of the basic reasons for privatization.
Roads and water systems owned by private companies might benefit from better upkeep, as companies would seek to minimize costs associated with decreasing and maximizing user satisfaction. For instance, private road owners could invest in advanced materials and technologies to reduce damages because most of our roads only last for a few years some will not last up to a year and you will start experiencing imbalance on the road while private water companies might adopt more efficient purification and distribution systems.
A few days ago I traveled to my village for an event, I regretted traveling by road, the roads are very bad and full of potholes, those roads aren't up to a year old, most of the companies who handle these projects only fight for their pockets, they never use good materials at all, but if it should be handle by a private company then we are expecting high qualities materials and a better-maintaining skill.
We all know that private companies prioritize profit over anything. The profit motive can act as a strong driver of quality. Private companies might compete with one another to provide better services, leading to higher standards for road maintenance and water quality. For instance, in other to attract clients, a private water provider may market its improved filtering method to reduce contamination rates.
Now to the disadvantages, everything that has a good side must surely have the other side, privatizing this infrastructure may result in setbacks for others
One of the most significant concerns with privatizing essential services is the potential for inequitable access. Roads and water are fundamental necessities, and privatization could lead to a situation where only those who can afford to pay have access. For example, if a private company owns a critical road, it might impose high tolls, making it difficult for low-income individuals to commute to work or access important services. In the same way, Privatized water systems may become unaffordable for underprivileged communities, causing economic and social gaps.
My other point is Privatization can have unexpected implications that are difficult to predict. For example, toll roads may cause additional congestion on alternative routes as people would try to avoid paying fees and this may result in longer journeys and it can probably cause air pollution. Also, Privatized water systems may lead to excessive extraction of water supplies, jeopardizing the environment and long-term viability.
In my opinion, things will be worse and can never benefit the less privileged, let's consider people who could not afford to pay for any of it, illegal exploration will be much because people will never have access to good water supply, privatization will make the infrastructure in good condition but let's consider others.
