The best memory is the one you get to remember and smile, and always wish if it could happen again.
This prompt made me remember When I was posted for my NYSC, things were still fair in the country then, I booked my transportation ticket online with God is Good Motors. We left for Akwa-Ibom State from Abuja at exactly five in the morning, and I thought the trip would be extremely stressful because I couldn't afford the cost of the flight as at then, so I chose to travel with one of the best transportation companies in the country.
When we first started our journey, I made the usual gentle lady gestures, plugged in my earpiece, and turned on my phone to start listening to music so that the ride wouldn't be boring. Inside the bus, I also met a group of funny guys who were also corp members and we were all headed to the same camp.
The guy sitting next to me pulled the earpiece out of my ear while he was speaking to me. Since I didn't respond, he assumed that the earpiece was preventing me from hearing what he was saying.
He inquired about my familiarity with the location, to which I replied that I was visiting the state for the first time. It was then that he realized I was a corp member, just like him, and that was how we began to communicate with each other.
He introduced himself, and I gave him a few details about myself in return, He was with the other boys, who were all deployed to the same state for their NYSC and had already graduated from the same university, so they knew each other.
We made new friends as a result of the unique and enjoyable experience; we talked with other passengers and took pictures together on the bus. We also exchanged phone numbers with each other in other to locate ourselves easily in camp and connect.
We laughed the entire way, even though the distance was very long, but we didn't feel it at all. One of the guys on the bus was very entertaining and he was often making us laugh with his jokes.
We stopped at a restaurant to get food, and one of the guys sponsored our meal for the day by paying for what we ate and the driver too. I had never experienced such, but this journey was fantastic. The driver was laughing the entire time, and I'm sure he enjoyed the passengers because the conversation flowed between us all.
The trip from Abuja to Akwa-Ibom was one of the best I have ever taken, and when we got to the army checking post, we were all smiling and waving at the soldiers. They returned the smiles and freed our bus.
With this journey, I made some connections. We bonded in camp, and those who redeployed back to their state did as well; some of us served in Akwa-Ibom. We reconnected in Abuja after service, and we had a lovely hangout. Nobody can believe that we met on the bus, we are more like blood.
