There are so many skills we can learn within a month, though it might not be as intense as we want but at least we can grab the basics and build from there. Some people use one month to learn how to drive, some learn how to sew, and others even start learning tech stuff like design or coding. But for me, if I’m asked to pick just one skill to learn in one month, I’ll go for baking.
Yes, baking.
I’ve always had interest in it. I like the process mixing things together, putting it in the oven and bringing out something soft and smelling nice. I once stayed with my sister who is a baker, I enjoyed helping out but I didn't put more interest in learning baking that year, I love seeing videos of people who bakes and decorate cakes, it is so fulfilling and I admire it so much.
To be honest, I don’t know how to bake anything, some person would say it is a shame for a woman not to know how to bake, maybe I should be ashamed of myself now because not even meat pie but I always watch people bake online, especially those short videos where they show step by step how they bake cake or meat pie or even small chops. It always looks easy on video, but I know in real life, it needs patience and attention. That’s why I’ve not rushed into it yet. But if someone gives me everything I need and says, “use this one month and learn baking,” I will not even think twice.
I will learn how to bake cake, meat pie, chinchin, bread, and maybe even try doughnuts. At least the common ones people always ask for during parties or birthdays. I want to be able to bake something for my family on weekends or for my children in the future. And if I get good at it, why not turn it into a small business?
One thing about baking is that it’s useful. People must chop. Whether they are happy or sad, food is important. And snacks like cake or meat pie never go out of style. If you know how to bake well, you can make money from it, especially if you are consistent and your snacks taste good.
I’ve seen people who started baking from their one room kitchen. From baking for neighbours and friends, they started getting orders, then they bought better ovens, then they opened a small shop. I love that kind of growth. You’re doing what you enjoy and still making money.
There is no joy that supercede baking something fresh for your family, Imagine waking up on a rainy Saturday, baking soft bread or cupcakes and eating it fresh with tea. That thing alone can lift your mood. And the feeling of baking something with your own hands is different.
I know I may not be a pro in just one month, but I’m sure I can learn enough to start. I can know the measurements, the oven time, how to mix, how to decorate maybe some birthday cakes that are simple with wedding cakes and how to avoid common mistakes. And if I make mistakes, I’ll laugh and try again. That’s how we grow.
So yes, out of all the skills I can think of, baking is the one I’ll go for if I’m given one full month and all the support I need. No stress, no rush. Just me and my apron, learning something I’ve always wanted to do.
