Many human sicknesses, diseases and even deaths have been attributed in the past to fate or as some are made to believe one-kind based on some certain believes. However, the field of science has open us up to insightful discoveries to the "inexplicables" of the past and what can be done. We now know better that some certain diseases/infections came as a result of the activities of we humans and exposure to certain microorganisms. Also, the field of science has also helped with certain ways to prevent been down with these diseases hereby putting an end to "mysterious" deaths in the past especially that of infants.
Vaccination is a structured preventive therapy which is a major breakthrough in the field of health science. However, as the proverbs says: "What faces you in one direction, faces another in another direction just like a talking drum", this breakthrough discovery to human healthcare faces rejection and blacklash from some certain people, sect, tribe or religious affiliations. Take for example, i remembered during my undergraduate final year days as a Pharmacy student then while been taught immunology and vaccination then, my professor lecturer took us the down the memory lane of how vaccination came alive and how it faced rejections by some certain individuals or groups based on sentiments, wrong indoctrination, religious affiliation, tribal affiliations etc.
I remembered how it was mentioned that a certain tribe in my country (Nigeria) because of their high population initially rejected vaccination because they see it as a way of downsizing them by others which they termed as a conspiracy. Also, some religious groups aswell by wrong indoctrination by their leaders brainwashed their followers to believe that vaccination is a way to eliminate them because of a "perceived" hatred to them by other religious group. I remembered that after i graduated from the University and went on a mandatory one year of national service as it is done in my country, i observed a trend of some diseases in this region where vaccination isn't embraced as it should as compared to the other regions where it was embraced and such diseases been a by-gone or drastically reduced.
Personally, i take vaccines very seriously and I'm an advocate for vaccination. I remembered that i visited the primary health center and took shot of the meningitis vaccine during this national service so as to prevent myself. Also, i took my two shots of the Covid vaccine as stipulated in the guideline. In addition, my son since birth has been getting his vaccines and is also on vaccination even as i do accompany my wife to the Hospital for such. Therefore, more enlightenments and orientations needs to be done as regards vaccination with the government stepping up in making these vaccines readily available to the people especially those living in the rural areas. I believe that vaccination is a breakthrough and as many that embraces it stands a chance of a healthy life. Thanks so much for reading even as comments and contributions are welcomed.
