Hi great people,
This is my response to week 85 edition 2 of the weekly engagement with the topic this is fraud.
I want to believe at one point or the other one would have been scammed directly or indirectly. In a short while, I will be sharing about my experiences with a fraudster and how I was successfully scammed. It was not a good experience at all and I hope it won't happen to anyone.
As an upcoming and growing young man, I had lots of desires and expectations about life especially in building a sustainable financial world. This is what really trigger me and eventually I became a victim of circumstances.
I was introduced in to one of these online platforms that has a system which rewards it's subscribers after a particular period of time with an amount almost the same with what they deposited. It looks flashy before my eyes and sense I have been wanting to build good financial fortune I could not resist it instead I yielded completely to it. I thought this would make me stable financially.
After few weeks, I tried to make withdrawal I couldn't and it started showing network challenge. Hmmm men that's the genesis of the scamming journey oooo. Finally I couldn't access the account again that's how I was scammed.
Another terrible experience I had was when I was preparing for my wedding. I had lots of things on my head and I needed money to sort out some bills. I logged in to my WhatsApp account to read some messages. Suddenly I saw an advert of a business that any amount I put shall be returned to me in hundred fold. This was also catching and looks promising as well. I said let me start with ₦10,000 then once I cash out I can step up to another level. They promised to merge me within 45mins so that I can get double of what I deposited. I quickly did the transfer to the account number given to me with the expectation of a return. After 30mins I couldn't hear from them, I picked my phone and called them immediately but no response after several attempt. That's how I lost that money in the course of my wedding preparations.
Those were the two incidence I could remembered that fraudsters prevail.
CONCLUSION
As I conclude, I would share the fraudulent activity that did not prevail because of the previous experience I had. On two to three different occasions an attempt was made to hack my WhatsApp account but everything proved abortive. I don't how they got my mobile phone number perhaps from WhatsApp groups I belong. They called me that I have meeting in the evening on the platform and they need to set up my account for the meeting. Therefore I should send them my pin or code that would be sent to this line shortly. Immediately I saw the code, I noticed that something fraudulent is about to happen hence I gave them the wrong code suddenly the guy dropped the call and started calling me names.
Another incidence that couldn't prevail was a call I received from one scammer that he's my bank manager. I should send him my account details in order to process an update for me. I was wondering how a bank manager would call me in the evening and request for my details....this is absolutely odd. When I noticed that he's a fraudster, I quickly ended the call.
