There are so many skills I can learn within a month, such as Baking or catering, Beads and wirework making, fashion designing, makeup, crochet making, and hair making. I am a fast learner, and I derive so much joy in learning, but it was so unfortunate that the parents of those days cared less about learning a skill; all they hammered on was school, and nothing else. Nowadays, parents are wiser because they know the situation of the country. Graduates are roaming the streets with no job offers, and the Nation keeps producing fresh graduates every season. However, if a skill is learnt, they can venture into whatever skill and use that as a means of survival.
So, which of these skills listed above will I pick to learn within a month? Hair making will be my preferred choice. The choice of hair making is deeply personal and rooted in a passion I’ve carried since I was a little girl. Growing up, I always found myself drawn to braiding and styling hair. I would practice on dolls, friends, and even myself delighting in the creativity and satisfaction of transforming someone’s look with just my hands and a bit of imagination. I designed a hair on a plastic doll head by using nails and hair extensions, and I started my practice with that before I moved to making hair for my seniors in school, and also the little ones around my area of living.
The beauty of making hair is not because it's a skill but it is an art form that allows creativity, expression, culture, and connection. Cutting different styles with proper training and tools is a treasure. I could master the foundations of this craft to become a professional within a month, especially because I already have a natural flair and genuine interest in it.
In that one month, I would focus on learning the essential techniques aside from what I already know to become more expert. My area of concentration will be on things I do not know, like new cornrows styles, dreadlocks, knotless braids, twists, and sleeping weaving. I’d also learn how to care for natural hair, understand different hair textures, and explore product knowledge. With dedication and daily practice, I could become confident enough to style others professionally by the end of the month.
Do you know hair making is a valuable skill? It is because hair making is always in demand, no matter what people want to look good. It opens up possibilities for self-employment, creative expression, and even community building. Whether working in a salon, freelancing, or teaching others, this skill can grow with me throughout life. In short, hair making is not just a skill I’d learn, it's a gift I want to develop and nurture. Within a month of focused learning, I’d take my childhood passion and turn it into a lifelong craft.
If I have the opportunity to choose any skill to learn within a month, with all the necessary resources provided, I would choose hair making.
