Almost everyone in the world has been a victim of something that made them really sad at a point in life but not everyone was lucky to turn the situation of things around for good.
It saddens my heart whenever I encounter an inconsiderate human, these are people who do not care about anyone except themselves. They are greedy, cunning, and evil, I always pray to God never to have anything to do with people like this.
I have been a victim at different times to different people, I remembered been bullied at school during my junior year and it took me a long time to gather the courage to fight back. After my experience in school, I developed a positive mindset about being a victim. Being a victim is not a condemnation to a horrible life it just requires you to stand strong and push through until you become a winner.
As I mentioned earlier, not many people were able to turn the table from being a victim to being a winner and hopefully, a few people can pick at least a lesson from my experience.
I was hired as a contract staff in a company back then, it wasn't the kind of job that I desired but it was all that I could lay my hands on at that time. I had no access to the company so I was reporting directly to the person who hired me.
At that time, my salary was 30,000 naira and after deducting my transportation for the whole month, I usually have just a little balance left. Staying idle wasn't an option and I have always believed that there are times in life when we need to start small.
I was really dedicated to the job but whenever my salary came through, it always made me sad.
There was a particular day I spoke to the man I was reporting to, I begged him to help me push for an increase from the company and he agreed to do so.
Nothing happened though and I still didn't give up. At the end of the seventh month, my supervisor gave me 10,000 naira aside from my salary. He claimed to be impressed with my work and compensated me with that from his purse.
I was really happy and the money encouraged me to work harder.
The following month, he went on leave and it caused a delay in my salary because he didn't make any plan for that. We were approaching the middle of the new month so I decided to go to the office.
I didn't have an ID card but after explaining my situation to a man I met outside the company, he took me in. I met the company's HR but he couldn't help.
Finally, someone who knew about my job sent me to one of the bosses there. I got to his office and he was an expatriate, he said good things about my job and I was happy.
I told him that I was there for my salary and he immediately gave me a note to the accounting department.
I didn't check the note because I was imagining getting a job in such an organization. I found the accounting office, they put a call across to the man and I was given 70,000 naira.
I asked if that was the amount written on the note and the lady said yes. I almost broke down into tears because it became clear to me that I have collected 40% of my salary all this while.
Immediately I left the office, I put a call across to my mom and explained everything to her. I went to deposit 20,000 naira in her account and we were all happy.
I was heading back to the field when my supervisor called me, he was so angry that I went to the company.
"How did he know?", I began to wonder and it seems someone who knew about the deal hinted him after I left.
I didn't say anything and he said the salary was for two contract workers.
He claimed that I wasn't the only one doing the job so I should send half of the money to a particular account.
I felt down and called my mom again to explain things to her. She sent 10,000 naira and advised me to send the money to the account which I did.
I was sad and made up my mind not to give my best anymore but I couldn't do that. Every time I made that decision, I always find myself working hard again.
At the end of the year, my supervisor invited me to company end of the year party. The party was on when I saw the expatriate who signed my salary the other day, I went to say thank you to him and he told me that there was an opening that could be an opportunity for me to become a staff.
I told him I was interested and applied immediately. It was a sales job and the former field job already gave me a good stand for the job because I have met a lot of people who will make my job easier.
The first two weeks of my sales test came out with an outstanding result and that was how I was promoted to the supervisor even before starting the job.
My supervisor was surprised and didn't believe it, I made my findings and discovered he has been bottling up my 40,000 every month. I didn't say a word about it to anyone and it took two years before his other crimes were exposed. He was arrested alongside his accomplice and that was how my fate as a victim changed for good.
