I imagined the number of lives that would be saved in the world daily if organ donation was a thing. I would automatically give my consent to it, but making it a law is one thing that I can't support, it should be a thing done by anyone at their free will. It's my body, and I can do whatever I wish with it, so binding me by law to donate my organs is a violation of rights. It just wouldn't work for me and many people across the world, so instead of imposing the law on people, it's best to educate people on why organ donation is important.
The goal is to save lives, and I believe there are so many people who will happily donate their organs to save others when the time is right. Let's take for instance, the time when blood donation wasn't a thing in the world. There were only a few people who thought it was a reasonable thing to do, and with time, it became a practice for so many people.
Many people walk in and out of the hospital today donating blood because they know the importance of doing that, so if people get educated about the importance of organ donation, the time will come when people will do it willingly. We can't expect a massive turnout from the onset, and it will take a long time for people to accept it, but surely it will happen.
To some humans, it would be a redemption for them knowing that they did at least one good thing in life.
Despite the good impact organ donation will have on the world, I have so many doubts about it because of how terrible the world has become.
Until now, I have refused to donate my blood because I just can't comprehend why blood is still sold in different government hospitals despite the massive donations they receive from donors. It would be a different case if they charged a token just for probably maintaining the blood storage facility or screening, it's so bad that getting blood costs a lot.
Although I haven't needed one before and from people's testimony, it makes sense to sell what hospitals received as a donation. I have this strong belief that this organ donation of a thing will eventually become messed up and the people in charge of this initiative will make the most out of it. They will end up selling, and it will be affordable for only elites in society, which makes no sense.
Monetizing donated organs will become a trend and nobody will be able to challenge the people in charge because of course, they have the backing of the people in power.
Another thing is that who is getting the donated organs? I know there are compatibility checks, but still, whoever is getting a donated organ needs to be properly checked down to how he or she had lived before needing an organ transplant.
What am I insinuating? A person who has damaged his or her organs due to a reckless way of living doesn't deserve a donated organ; they deserve to pay because that's the only way they can know the importance of what they got.
It won't be surprising to see such a person continue with his or her terrible lifestyle if the organ comes for free. As a ghost, if I discover my organs were given to an undeserving person, I will take them back by all means. There are people who truly need them, and those are people it should go to.
Thirdly, attaching monetary rewards to organ donors should not be considered. The person who donated the organ is gone, so why give a reward again for it?
If a reward system comes up in monetary terms, then the whole thing will be messed up. I wouldn't be surprised to see organs being harvested illegally. Instead of giving monetary rewards, there can be medical or social benefits to the family of the donor. I think that would be a lot better and the world wouldn't end up as an organ harvesting ground.
Aside from these things, I don't have anything against organ donation and if these problems can be tackled successful, I am 100% percent in support of the initiative. Knowing that people don't have to wait for a long time before getting their damaged organs replaced is a big deal because I learned it takes some time to get organs replaced, and the struggle is real for people going about with one collapsing organ or the other. Transplants can be done a lot faster and easier, so people won't have to endure too much pain before getting their lives again.
As I mentioned earlier, organ donation should never be forced, nor should there be a law binding people to it. One of the reasons why I said so is because of some traditions or cultures that don't support such a thing, and they must be respected. It should be done at free will, and that way, the person receiving the organ can even live a happy life.
