A part of effective communication is to avoid unnecessary jargon and the usage of too many technical words more so when we're communicating with people if different fields.

On several occasions, I have logged into Hive only to be confused with several jargon and terminologies that are difficult to grasp as a newbie. But as I progressed and started reading others' posts, I began to understand some of the terminologies used on the platform. I must admit that these terms can easily discourage you as a newbie and as such, we must endeavor to learn and understand what they stand for as we progress.
At this juncture, I'll be stating and explaining some of the terms and jargon used on the platform that I have come across and understand.
Newbie
The term "newbie" is used to describe a person that is new to the hive platform. This means that you are a fresher and know nothing about the platform and how it operates. It can be described as the starting point or the infancy stage of every user/subscriber on the blockchain. Newbies tend to ask a lot of questions and make a lot of mistakes such as wrong hashtags.
Pro-Newbie
Just like newbies, pro-newbies are those who know some basic principles such as content etiquette, markdowns, etc This is usually the transition stage where users are neither newbies nor mature users.
Hive Power (HP)
Now HP is the influence a user has on the platform. The more your HP, the more you become influential and earn more. Now let us assume you invest in a business where the profits would be shared among yourselves, when it is time to share the profits, each person is paid based on the amount of money invested in it. Those who have a majority stake or share tend to be paid more and wield more influence on others that have a low share. So basically, your HP allows you to earn more rewards and helps sustain the blockchain since it is decentralized. Hive Power is earned through payouts, 100% power-up, and a process called power up.
Cross Post
This is when you post content published on one community into the other.

Power-Up
This is converting your hive(cash) into stake(influence). This means that you are converting your hive that could be traded for more power of stake.
Hive Based Dollar (HBD)
This is a stablecoin pegged to the USD that is usually earned through payouts. It is converted for the main token called Hive. The way to earn Hive is to convert your HBD for Hive tokens.
Reblog
This is sharing content on your blog. Just like Twitter where users retweet contents they identify with, hive also allows users to reblog content to their blog, and can be read by their followers.

This is like your wall or timeline where you can write anything you like and share it with your followers.
