Since I've grown up, receiving gifts from others is rare because I'm usually the one expected to give them. This isn't a problem, though, because as long as I have them, I'm always happy to help out a person in need, and I've grown accustomed to this way of life. However, every now and then, a gift will come to me that is both generous and unexpected.
There was a time in my life when I was at my very low moment because my daughter was very ill and got admitted into a hospital, the situation was critical, when we arrived at the hospital her life was hanging on a thin thread, she was so weak and almost lost consciousness, I was so devastated, I don't even pray for my enemies to witness what I passed through then, she had to be placed on oxygen and needed blood transfusion as her blood levels were critically low, we ran several test upon test, and she was later diagnosed, I prayed like I have never did all through my life, everyday we had to get new prescribed drugs, injections, and IV fluids etc. The bills were piling up, if you have ever been to a hospital you will know how the bills rises up so quickly in a matter of days, and we stayed for months, all I wanted was for my daughter to be get better and lead a healthy life.
Gradually, she started responding to treatment, I was happy but whenever I remember our bills, my heart skips as it was huge, still, no money is bigger than my daughter's life, so we did our best to pay during our stay in the hospital, we stayed for 3 months before my daughter was cleared to be discharged soon, some outstanding bills were still waiting to be cleared and there was no hope anywhere, we already exhausted our savings and few family members helped too, my husband already listed some of our properties online to sell off to foot the bills, but there was no buyer yet, we became very worried.
A day to when we would be discharged, the doctor came bearing good news that someone who prefers to remain anonymous cleared the outstanding bills of all the children in the pediatric ward, there was shouts and tears of joy in the ward and I could see gleams of hope in the eyes of parents that was filled with worries and sadness, its not an easy thing to watch your child suffer a health challenge. I was relieved and happy at the same time, we told the doctor thank you also to help us in thanking the stranger whom to this day we've not gotten a name to the anonymous or know his or her gender, all I know is that he/she was God sent at that point in our lives as we didn't do anything to deserve such a help in our trying time.
Anytime I recall this event, my heart is always filled with joy and I'm grateful to the person wherever he/she is. Since then, my daughter has never had any reason to get admitted in the hospital.
