No one is an island, meaning we can't survive always being alone, right from birth, there is someone we must rely on to strive, be it our parent or other close relatives, but as we grow, we realize that there are times we feel compelled to belong among our peers, often tagged as 'Peer Pressure' while most times, the pressure to feel among often make us derail from the right part, the reason we often received counsel from our parent not to be covetous and be satisfied with what we have, and they also try to do their best in providing our basic needs so we don't feel not enough.
peer pressure has made a lot of young people today get involved in regrettable actions, girls wanting to use the latest wigs, dresses phones, etc just like their friend who probably comes from a wealthy home and is lucky enough to have parents that can afford that lifestyle, but a covetous girl feels pressured and go the extra mile of prostituting herself just to belong, therefore losing her self worth in the process,
The same can be said for boys, your friends call you weak because you don't smoke to drink alcohol, then you feel pressured to prove yourself, joining them, and before you know it, you've graduated to taking hard drugs, all of which are bad and regrettable way to fall to the pressure of your friends.
but does that mean there isn't healthy peer pressure? of course, there is, I remember in my early days at the university, I wasn't the type of student who read always because I thought the university was the same as a secondary school where even if I didn't read I still ended up in first position. But the university was a totally different ball game, I had hundreds of coursemates from the whole part of the country, and even though we didn't hustle for first position, attaining a good CGPA was also as important, luckily for me, I had a roommate who loved reading, the library was her favorite place to be in when she wasn't attending classes, and even at home, she usually woke up at night to read, that I began to feel like an unserious student, I became pressured to be like her
I was already a student who had a sharp retentive memory of any thought during lectures, now adding intensive reading to this through the pressure I felt from my roommate not only made me pass my semester's exam that year, but I passed excellently well because of the time dedicated to studying that everyone wanted to know Glory after checking our result because I topped my class in most of the courses, It was later I learned that my course mate was one who was slow in understanding what was thought, and even reading had to be done over and over again because of that so she could at least have average grades, and there I was feeling pressured, no knowing that fact, though it was good pressure and made me buckle up in my studies through that school period.
So you see, there are still good ways to feel pressurized, it is left for us to discern well and make the right choice on the kind of peer pressure to fall to.
