Hello everyone, sending so much love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
On today's episode of frankly speaking of the music series. I wrote about the music review of a special genre of Music called "Reggae" music. The title of the song is "Slow Down" by Skip Marley featuring the beautiful H.E.R
My Story
One of the greatest concept in life is "Love". Please permit me to digress, I am not talking about "agape love" but rather a more intimate type of love. The one that is shown between lovers or couples. Well, the search for finding someone really special is quite hard and it was not different for me. I have met a couple of beautiful ladies, I had connected with them but still ended up in "tears". I had quickly migrated to the category of people, who you find online begging and praying to find someone's daughter. My idea of love in college was "get into college, find a girl and you guys will date for some time, then get married and give your testimony about how you started from college", I had no idea that the world of looking for your "perfect match" was very wild. The need to find someone really special to express your feelings to was important, I had thought about all the nice things in the world I wanted to say to my "perfect match". My aim was to choke her up with love like no one had ever done, I wanted to appreciate her every moment, she might not be a "god" but I wanted her to be in-charge of my heart. Several episodes and experiences with different ladies happened, most were extremely bad, a few were nice but had certain constraints why we could not date, until I finally met someone really special, I needed a song to always remind me of the plans I had for her in my heart and that's where "Slow Down" comes in.
The Music
Growing up as a child, my parents and senior ones had spoken so much of the great Bob Marley, he was viewed as a Big Legend. I did not have to listen to his music to know who Bob Marley was. His figure was well spoken of and his works were never forgotten by those who loved him. Reggae music is a genre that speaks to the mind and gives you a true reflection of your thoughts.
Skip Marley was from the Marley's family tree and that could only mean one thing, the music was from the heart. On a quiet sunny day in Nigeria, I had tuned in to a popular radio station to listen to music because I was very bored, then I heard this beautiful song "Slow Down" playing. The intro of the song started off with Skip Marley saying "Slow Down lemme get to love you", he had a very commanding voice, as it caught my attention which was accompanied by Piano chords, as it transitioned into a beautiful bass rhythm with the regular Reggae drum beats and the great H.E.R was introduced at the perfect time as they both synchronised into a beautiful voice while hammering on the Beautiful lyrics.
This is the music video for the song:
I stumbled on Youtube to see this amazing performance with a live band, also adding a cover of Bob Marley' song
Slow down
Girl, let me love you
Darling, I care
I care for you
More than my own self
Darling, I'll share
I'll share with you
All goodness and wealth
Said we can have just one night
Or we can one whole life
If we play it cool, yeah
We can have that one thing
Or we can have everything
If our hearts are true
Girl, slow down
Girl, let me love you
Darling, slow down
Let me get to know you
Baby, I've been fantasizing
Just looking in your eyes
You know I'm looking for more
And you're what I've been praying for
This kind of love don't come around like this
I'm not one to play around like this
It's so real
And I love how it feels, I
Love it when we slowly sway
I love it when we think the same thing
I love the way we move
The way we move
We can have every night, yeah
We can have every day
Ooh, I want you too
I need you
Darling, slow down (slow down, slow down)
Let me love you, girl (let me love)
Slow down (slow down, slow down)
Let me get to know you
I wanna see you tomorrow
Not just the thrill of today
Don't let our love just be borrowed, no
This is the choice that we take
Girl, slow down
Why don't ya, don't ya, don't ya?
Let me love you (I need you, you, you)
Darling, slow down (slow down)
Let me get to know you
(Let me get to know you)
Hey, we can have just one night
Or we can have one whole life
If we play it cool
Cool (so cool, oh)
We can have that one thing
(We can have that one thing)
We can have everything
(We can have everything)
If our hearts are true
