I really love the song "before you wake up" by Adekunle Gold. Especially the opening line "I know you need a holiday, let's go away for six months twice in a year".
This is a song I love so much but whenever I think of this line, I begin to actually think about it.
What do I need to do to afford this lifestyle or something similar?
I don't like stress just like most people and I love vacations, tourism and visiting new places for the fun of it. A real fan of soft life.
But this is not readily available and one has to make do with what one can.
The concept of free days is always welcomed and I have never passed on the opportunity to relax, have fun and take a break from the daily hustle and bustle of life.
There are a lot of days where one would really wish to have free days but some times it's not achieved either because of the nature of the job or the subjective opinion of the head(s) of the office.
One of such days is birthday celebrations. I can't imagine being at work on my birthday. A day when I expect to have maximum fun with self, friends, family, etc like limitless fun o.
Imagine receiving multiple calls, texts and all while at work. The kind of distraction that would create would be enormous.
From the frequent ringing of the phone by one well wisher or the other, the numerous status updates on WhatsApp and other social media not to talk of friends who would want to present gifts or sing songs etc. What of those who will want to take you out to a fun place to cool off and be entertained? You would just miss out on all these goodies because of work. Doesn't seem fair.
Now imagine having to postpone all this to such a time when work would be over, let's say in the evening depending on the area of work. It won't be enjoyable having to pack all these in one evening and would take away the fun from it.
Imagine a doctor being on call on his birthday, I don't think he would enjoy such call o.
I think birthdays should be made a holiday for the celebrant to go and have fun with friends and well wishers. This would also foster a good working environment and enhance productivity and job satisfaction.
If I am aware that I would be freed by my workplace to be absent from work on my birthday, I would start planning ahead on how to maximise this day both with respect to my outings and gift presentations. I would ensure that such a birthday would be one to remember.
But if the opposite is the case and I am on duty on such a day, I would discharge my duties regardless but would definitely wish I didn't have to do it at least for that day.
Another period which I think should be considered is the "honeymoon period" when the marriage is fresh and young.
Imagine having to report to work the day after your wedding! Won't be nice at all.
I feel like this period should be a free period for the couple, at least for a month. So they can have a smooth honeymoon devoid of distractions.
In my opinion, having these periods freed for the worker would definitely be a huge relief and the advantages would be felt in the workplace. Afterall, who no like better thing?
