In many countries, the status of women has improved significantly compared to a century ago. Women now have the right to vote, participate in elections, and hold prominent positions in both the private and government sectors. This progress can be attributed to the sacrifices and struggles of many individuals who have worked to change societal attitudes. However, it is important to note that there are still relatively few women in such positions. This disparity often becomes a heated topic of discussion, leading to intense debates.
Before delving into this subject, it’s crucial to understand the distinction between equality and equity. Equality refers to providing opportunities regardless of gender, while equity involves offering opportunities based on the suitability of the job and the specific requirements involved.
If I look around me in my office itself then I find that we have a good strength of female employees. I understand that the nature of work is also one factor that platba crucial role. The company I am working with has a multipal units at different location of country. Each unit has the unique product. In my present unit the major work is related to the electronics so here we have mix employees and ratio of man and woman is also balanced. The top three positions of unit also chaired by the women, this shows that the management is gender neutral. The head of department get the same salary irrespective of th gender and its based on the past experience he ir she has. Similar a new joining engineer also get the same salary irrespective of the gender, only matters that he or she has a required education qualification and scored a good marks in compitive exam. On the other hand if I look into the previous job which was in same company but with other unit than I find that the majority of employees were mans only. The major work their was into mechanical which involves the maching, fabrication, welding, lifting of heavy items etc. But that does not means that we were having not female employees their, but yes the ratio was unbalanced. Nature of work was one major reason.
When I was in my diploma and bachalor collage for my mechanical degree I observed that no girl choosen the mechanical stream so it was obvious that when during course only the strength of girls was zero then in field also where the basic requirement is degree in mechanical stream is going to be zero only.
While educational qualifications should undoubtedly be the primary criterion for job eligibility, we cannot overlook the importance of meeting the physical requirements of the position. Additionally, it is unjust for someone to be selected for a job and receive lower pay solely based on their gender.
