I am thankful to my parents for my cultural background, of course, not all of them formed who I am. But they are "guilty" of a great part of it. Also is part of our relationship to continue to help each other, of course establishing limits on it. I don't agree with either part of sacrificing their own family to help them. That can create a vicious cycle of dependence between the two sides. We can cite my kids. I want to do the best for them, and of course, even when they are grown up I want to continue to help them, but still, we need to put some limits in this relationship.
For example, my kid wants a special birthday. I want to create a special day where my kid feels loved. But depending on the birthday requirements, it can be very harmful to us parents, especially to our budget. I know an example where the father spent his entire retirement money to pay for the university of one daughter. The father is already reaching his 60s, what about now? And I don't see this daughter helping him in his retirement, since she is selfish. Usually when you have constant self-sacrifice on one side, the other tends to explore more. The same thing to parents' mistakes.
For example, parents that spent all retirement money that are receiving to pay for clothes and electronics, and now there isn't money left even to sustain themselves. They still have an income, but because of their debt with the bank all the income goes to the debt, should a child sacrifice their money for their mistakes? It depends. If we have a way to help them, we can. But if you are sacrificing something in your daily life, like changing kids to a cheaper school, or canceling your vacation that you already paid off. That starts to get dangerous.
Even the law agrees with that. If these parents die, the kids won't be guilty of these debts. The only thing that will happen is that all the assets in the name of the parents will be executed to pay this debt. And maybe only the leftovers will be inherited by their kids. Some cultural parents prepare themselves to leave assets to their kids, but they commit so many mistakes that the inherited assets become headaches. The best way is for kids to prepare themselves and build their assets.
At this right moment I am having the same type of conversation with my mother. Her relationship with my father is getting in a position of self-sacrifice. And it is time for her to make some decisions to step back if the person ( my father in this case) is demanding what she can provide. No one can be guilty of the actions of the other, parents, children, and even partners. We all are human beings with our own lives which need to be preserved and with the same value as our loved ones.
Sou grato aos meus pais pela minha formação cultural, claro, nem todos eles formaram quem eu sou. Mas eles são "culpados" de grande parte dela. Também faz parte do nosso relacionamento continuar a ajudar um ao outro, claro estabelecendo limites nisso. Não concordo com nenhuma das partes em sacrificar a própria família para ajudá-los. Isso pode criar um ciclo vicioso de dependência entre os dois lados. Podemos citar meus filhos. Quero fazer o melhor por eles e, claro, mesmo quando eles crescerem, quero continuar a ajudá-los, mas ainda assim, precisamos colocar alguns limites nesse relacionamento.
Por exemplo, meu filho quer um aniversário especial. Quero criar um dia especial em que meu filho se sinta amado. Mas, dependendo dos requisitos do aniversário, isso pode ser muito prejudicial para nós, pais, especialmente para o nosso orçamento. Conheço um exemplo em que o pai gastou todo o dinheiro da aposentadoria para pagar a universidade de uma filha. O pai já está chegando aos 60 anos, e agora? E não vejo essa filha ajudando-o na aposentadoria, pois ela é egoísta. Normalmente, quando você tem auto-sacrifício constante de um lado, o outro tende a explorar mais. A mesma coisa com os erros dos pais.
Por exemplo, pais que gastaram todo o dinheiro da aposentadoria que estão recebendo para pagar roupas e eletrônicos, e agora não há dinheiro sobrando nem para se sustentar. Eles ainda têm uma renda, mas por causa da dívida com o banco, toda a renda vai para a dívida, um filho deve sacrificar seu dinheiro por seus erros? Depende. Se tivermos uma maneira de ajudá-los, podemos. Mas se você estiver sacrificando algo em sua vida diária, como mudar as crianças para uma escola mais barata ou cancelar suas férias que você já pagou. Isso começa a ficar perigoso.
Até a lei concorda com isso. Se esses pais morrerem, os filhos não serão culpados dessas dívidas. A única coisa que acontecerá é que todos os bens em nome dos pais serão executados para pagar essa dívida. E talvez apenas as sobras sejam herdadas por seus filhos. Alguns pais culturais se preparam para deixar bens para seus filhos, mas cometem tantos erros que os bens herdados se tornam dores de cabeça. A melhor maneira é que os filhos se preparem e construam seus bens.
Neste exato momento, estou tendo o mesmo tipo de conversa com minha mãe. O relacionamento dela com meu pai está chegando a uma posição de auto-sacrifício. E é hora de ela tomar algumas decisões para recuar se a pessoa (meu pai neste caso) estiver exigindo o que ela pode fornecer. Ninguém pode ser culpado pelas ações do outro, pais, filhos e até mesmo parceiros. Todos nós somos seres humanos com nossas próprias vidas que precisam ser preservadas e com o mesmo valor que nossos entes queridos.
