In the last 3 months I changed a bit my feeding habits. Well, I was already in this path since my wife got diagnosed with high Cholesterol in the last year. We have been consuming less red meat and processed meat in general since then. But 3 months ago we saw my levels of cholesterol a bit over the limit. I made a post about it and even got some nice tips from friends here in the blockchain.So I passed to a new blood exams here is what happened!
My total cholesterol went still a bit up! My LDL went up, but at least my HDL went a bit up too. That means that somehow the new diet had an effect, not as much as I wanted. The HDL is a good molecule that competes with LDL and it avoids gathering in the blood vessels. But my LDL didn't go down. I still didn't go to the doctor but what I read is that I will probably still need some meds.
What did I change in my life? I became so much more active. Taking advantage of the summer, I am jogging at least 3 times a week. I am also going to the gym with my wife. I continued to drink green tea instead of unhealthy beverages. Decided to supplement my daily protein intake with sardines! Sardines have a high concentration of Omega 3 that can help with lipid absorption. Also, following @ladyaryastark's tip I added chia to my diet. My daily 0% fat yogurt is coming inside with a teaspoon of chia.
The only tip that I was a bit scared to try was the red yeast rice. It looks like a very promising supplement to help with lowering cholesterol. But I read that you need to be cautious with it, especially if you are into anticoagulants like me. Even the prescribed statins, I saw that I am not eligible for some of them because of that. Like statins in general, the red yeast rice is also toxic to the liver in the long term, so the liver proteins need to be monitored in blood exams. So, despite being a natural resource of help, it can be toxic like the statins.
I changed my life to start fighting this problem. It had some results like I said, but still wasn't enough. My body metabolism slowed down a bit, plus some genetic hereditary traits are influencing this. So, probably I will start taking some statins as a possibility to improve. I am very pro avoiding meds until I need them. But I recognize their benefits in helping us. Well, I will let the doctor judge this case, and her experience will tell me what I need. I have an appointment soon, which I was going to call today to remind me, well now I will wait until Monday to call the office and confirm when my appointment is.
Nos últimos 3 meses, mudei um pouco meus hábitos alimentares. Bem, eu já estava nesse caminho desde que minha esposa foi diagnosticada com colesterol alto no ano passado. Temos consumido menos carne vermelha e processada em geral desde então. Mas há 3 meses, vimos meus níveis de colesterol um pouco acima do limite. Fiz um post sobre isso e até recebi algumas dicas legais de amigos aqui no blockchain. Então, passei para novos exames de sangue e aqui está o que aconteceu!
Meu colesterol total ainda subiu um pouco! Meu LDL subiu, mas pelo menos meu HDL também subiu um pouco. Isso significa que, de alguma forma, a nova dieta teve um efeito, não tanto quanto eu queria. O HDL é uma molécula boa que compete com o LDL e evita que ele se acumule nos vasos sanguíneos. Mas meu LDL não baixou. Ainda não fui ao médico, mas o que li é que provavelmente ainda precisarei de alguns remédios.
O que mudei na minha vida? Tornei-me muito mais ativo. Aproveitando o verão, estou correndo pelo menos 3 vezes por semana. Também estou indo à academia com minha esposa. Continuei a beber chá verde em vez de bebidas não saudáveis. Decidi complementar minha ingestão diária de proteínas com sardinhas! As sardinhas têm uma alta concentração de ômega 3, que pode ajudar na absorção de lipídios. Além disso, seguindo a dica da @ladyaryastark, adicionei chia à minha dieta. Meu iogurte diário com 0% de gordura vem com uma colher de chá de chia.
A única dica que tive um pouco de medo de experimentar foi o arroz vermelho fermentado. Parece um suplemento muito promissor para ajudar a reduzir o colesterol. Mas li que é preciso ter cuidado com ele, especialmente se você toma anticoagulantes como eu. Mesmo com as estatinas prescritas, vi que não tenho direito a algumas delas por causa disso. Assim como as estatinas em geral, o arroz vermelho fermentado também é tóxico para o fígado a longo prazo, portanto, as proteínas hepáticas precisam ser monitoradas em exames de sangue. Portanto, apesar de ser um recurso natural de ajuda, pode ser tóxico como as estatinas.
Mudei minha vida para começar a lutar contra esse problema. Como eu disse, teve alguns resultados, mas ainda não foi o suficiente. Meu metabolismo corporal desacelerou um pouco, além de algumas características genéticas hereditárias que estão influenciando isso. Então, provavelmente começarei a tomar estatinas como uma possibilidade de melhorar. Sou totalmente a favor de evitar medicamentos até precisar deles. Mas reconheço seus benefícios em nos ajudar. Bem, deixarei a médica julgar este caso, e a experiência dela me dirá o que preciso. Tenho um compromisso em breve, para o qual eu ia ligar hoje para me lembrar, mas agora vou esperar até segunda-feira para ligar para o consultório e confirmar quando será meu compromisso.
