From my exposure during my postgraduate diploma in education, we were meant to understand from our educational psychology lecturer that every child is a pure board. When we say pure, it means that every child comes with a clean slate, which is called tabula rasa, so that clean slate is just there, and whatever is written there comes from the society.
The lecturer further explained that the adults in the environment are the ones who corrupt the younger ones. I have three kids and a teenage boy with me; my little boy is a few months old already. So I tell my older kids that whatever the little one does tomorrow, he learned from them. I say that to mean that all of them should put up the best behavior so he will grow to flow in that line too.
Most times when my kids return from school, we encourage them to go in and pray before proceeding with other activities, so one of the days my son came and told me that his cousin who stays with us doesn't use to pray the way they do. The older boy tried to argue with him, and I told him that kids learn by example, so he should do his best to pray as they do too. Kids constantly learn from the practices that happen around them because as they are tender, they don't have minds of their own, so it becomes so easy for them to be influenced negatively or positively.
Any child that grows up in an environment of love will automatically learn to love not only his parents but also those whom he comes across on a daily basis.Goodness is learned over time; it is a personal decision. If a person who comes from a good home turns out to be bad overnight, that means at a point in such person's life he came in contact with people who taught him otherwise, and he by himself chose to have a diversion.
Then those from a bad home who become different also meet with people who are good, and those people help them to have a change of heart. Not having a bad child first starts with the parents. Almost on a daily basis we lament how what is good is now seen as bad by the society and the bad events are now being celebrated. Having a good child starts with parents who have made up their minds to be with the kids throughouttheir developmental stage.
It pains my heart to see that many parents are not responsible; they are just after their work and what to put on the table, while the society is having the highest say in kids. This is why we have much trouble in the world today; that same money you go out and return late at night with you still use to sort the issues these kids bring home. Some parents get so busy with work while their sons and daughters are being used as sex tools by strangers.
We just need to wake up to our responsibility and stop pushing it to the school and blaming teachers for what we failed to do.Kids will do better if the parents do their best to be involved with what happens to them. Some kids feel insecure with outsiders and disrespect those who are not their parents because of what and how they grew up. I can continue on and on, but let me just stop here. Thank you for visiting my blog today. Do have a beautiful weekend.
