Hello there,
Today I'm going to be writing on a very crucial topic which says fighting bribery and corruption. In the world at large, there is no place where bribery and corruption do not exist. So I will be giving us some possible ways I think we can use to cure this disease.
I have so many suggestions on how to fight bribery and corruption and I don't even know where exactly to start from but I need to start right? Yes, so let me start.
Acquiring more knowledge
In our world today, we have come to understand that some people that engage in this act is due to the fact that they have limited knowledge or understanding of things. Just imagine a person who is always ready to learn asking for bribe or doing something in an unjust way, it's possible but most times such a person will want to abstain from such acts.
Knowledge is power
I always believe in the word which says, knowledge is power. It takes only a foolish person to engage in this act of bribery and corruption. So the advice is;
Always be ready to learn and never feel like you already know too much.
Train Your Child/children
Training a child is more than just providing food, clothes and shelter or schooling but it involves giving that child a manual to always run to in case he or she is not clear about something. As a parent or guardian, you should always teach by example. But what we find in the world is the act of the Pharisee, which says
Do what I say but don't do what I do.
Many parents or guardians are found guilty in this aspect. They might be telling their children to abstain from bribery and corruption yet they still engage in it even to the notice of their children or wards. Let's take for instance, a parent who his or her child wants to sit for an exam they know fully well that the child has little or no knowledge about. They will then go to the extent of bribing someone to help their child out for the exam and at the end if the child passes his or her exam, the parents will start boasting of that Child to the next neighbor whose child didn't do well. Now the question is, what do you think your child has learnt from you? In case you don't know let me tell you, the child has learned that there is always a easy way out. In the future,, when that child is faced with any challenge, he or she will want to seek help from others at all cost.
The advice here is parents train your children by example.
Know Your Stand
In my country especially, I've come to understand that many of her citizens don't know their stand. So persons easily get scared once they are threatened by the police or any other force. They are ready to bribe them just to avoid too much talk or attention. I remember when I was traveling to Port Harcourt, we passed through many check points and at every point, the police men there will always take some money from the driver and they don't even do their jobs anymore. My thoughts then will be, what if that driver was carrying something illegal and now because of that little change, you will let them pass. This is because, both the driver and the police men don't know their stand.
Live a Honest Life
How are you living your life? Are you the one that is scared of being asked some questions? Many people are very scared when they are being asked questions, they easily feel guilty once a question is thrown at them, you know why? It's because they live a life that is full of deceit, pretence and all sought of dishonesty. If we can live an honest life, it will help us to fight bribery and corruption.
Do not Over look anything
I know this one sounds somehow but as you can see it's one of my solutions to fighting bribery and corruption. In our homes today, so many of us both as parents, guardians, sisters, brothers and even friends, when we notice some certain behaviour from someone close to us, most times we tend to overlook them so as not to offend anyone. But the thing is the more we overlook some things, the more we accommodate some of these attributes that will eventually lead to bribery and corruption.
So the advice is, Do not overlook.
These are some of the few ways I think when implemented will help fight bribery and corruption. Please do well to leave your comment at the comment section.
