All my life I've had experiences of power outage quite a good number of times that it got to a point when we had to start living without power supply, all we did was get petrol when we needed light for anything as that was more reliable. Here in my country, some states in it have gone years without electricity while you can hardly hear of power outage in some states. I've been privilege to live in both conditions and it was a bitter and sweet experience respectively.
The fact that I've had this experience a lot is making it so hard to remember the worst power outage but thinking more about it, I think I remember one which I'd share. It's been a long time so I might add and remove a few things from the original way it all happened, hehe.
It was on a Sunday evening I think, we were all expecting power supply since we normally run supply on shifts. Then our shift was one day in and one day out which sometimes could be two days out. Well, even though the sequence was not stable, we were still happy about it, at least we have power supply you know. So that particular day, it was our turn to use the light. When they gave us power supply, it was not up to few minutes and the next thing we heard was the transformer giving out funny sounds.
Seeing that, we all knew it was another month or even months of no power supply, damn! You know, I was not so surprised because it was almost normal but then I was super disappointed. I had already watched my school wears for school the next day, all that was left was for me to iron them and that happened. You know, I love ironing my school wears then to make me look presentable but now I can't do that.
I was worried because it was so unlike me not to iron my uniform to school especially on a Monday! That alone left me worried for sometime but the good thing was, I had a friend who stays some few blocks away. His compound uses a different transformer so the power outage did not affect them. I quickly went inside to get my uniform and ran to my friends place to get it ironed. I was saved that day, but because I had put my hope on PHCN to give us power supply I didn't plan ahead but I'm glad I was still able to get my uniform ironed.
There have been different cases of power outage but like I said, now I'm kinda use to it so I don't expect too much from the power station, I just make do of what I see and good thing we have a good generator, all we just need to do is get Petrol when we really need power and that solves most of our problems. And to add, now we make use of prepaid meter so we don't have to worry about the outrageous bill we are given for something we could barely make use of.
I keep hoping that someday all of these will change for the better and we won't have to be spending so much on petrol but still get quality light. Because now the price of petrol is on the high side, so it's not so advisable to keep spending on petrol but we really can't help it so much if nothing is done about it. Nigeria is known for it's bad power supply within the country across different states but it's a good thing that some part still get constant power supply at least.
Until next time, stay AWESOME and JIGGY!!!
