Climate changes in our world today is something that occurs as a result of the so many inappropriate activities we as humans engage in from day to day. We do things the way we want and I won’t really blame us, I blame the fact that we don’t have true laws that applies to all. A lot of people these days just buy their way through a lot of things and that has caused us immensely and it is evident even in our climate change.
Climate changes occurs due to some little activities that have accumulated over the years. As little as throwing away dirty water on a tiled road or improperly disposing of waste. All of these things add up to cause climate changes in our environment and the world at large. So for this week’s hivelearners topic, we are asked to share our personal experiences with climate changes and whether or not it is as terrible as we portray it to be. So without further ado, let’s dive into my experience.
Growing up, I lived in so many local places where you get to see all the irritating stuff you can think of. It isn’t as serious as some places but it isn’t even supposed to be that way in the first place. We lived in those apartments we call “face-me-I-face-you” apartments. It was one of the worst experiences but we survived anyways and I remember there was no day that went by I don’t directly or indirectly pray to God to keep us safe because those environments weren’t places humans should live in. But we had no choice. We had little to eat and also needed to acquire a formal education so we just had to manage bearing in mind that it won’t be forever.
Back then, we had good drainage systems but guess what? It was as if some of the people are either ignorant or just wicked. They will throw always their dirt both sewages and refuses inside the drainage holes. That caused a big problem after a long time. Usually, there are sanitation days so we used those days to clean our environments but people won’t show up and that made the whole problem worse. Our drainage system was no longer functioning as it should and when rainy season came, it was a complete disaster.
The environment kept getting flooded especially after a heavy rainfall. I remember how we will always bail out water from our houses due to the fact that the water started entering inside our houses. Now just imagine how it will be like if you weren’t at home on a particular day when there was a heavy downpour. It was terrible. As a child, instead of praying it should rain so I can play in the rain with my friends, I would pray it doesn’t rain because I know the work that my siblings and I would have to do.
Did it get better at any point? Yes, only when it was dry season. During dry seasons, after experiencing that unfortunate incidence severally, people started showing up for clean up and general sanitation. But we only do it during the dry seasons because it wasn’t even necessary during the rainy seasons. We all learnt our lessons the hard way but I was happy we learned although it was almost too late. It wasn’t completely late for some of us because we had the opportunities to later move to a better location.
Climate change is not over hyped, for me, it is actually under hyped. So many people are ignorant of the consequences climate change has on humanity and also, they think climate change occurs immediately after their careless actions. Climate changes occur as a result of long term effects. The more we do things anyhow we want or think, the more we endanger ourselves and our fellow citizens. Let us all learn to do the right thing even when no one is watching and when someone tries to correct us, we shouldn’t think they are judging us and just do what is needed to be done. We all are humans and we make mistakes.
