There's a part of science where you've to test or experiment new medicine etc on rats, pigs before trying on human to see how it'll impact them and behaviour changes or health.
It's a sensitive case and there's both type of opinions, like we shouldn't try experiments on any animals at all for the sake of science and some prefer to keep it that way since it's making things better not worse.
Lab rats and cockroaches for the Science experiments
I mean cockroach is something way too weird and while many fear cockroaches even the doctors do and it helps them a lot

Like bio/medical students do those operations on cockroaches to get rid of fear, learn how things work practically.
Oh it's not just cockroaches but also frogs, dissect it and take out heart or something like that even though I ain't a bio student but my mom was and have seen these practicals happening in real life so I know how important it is do it.
it's not stone age where you're supposed to go do your thing on this human
There was a time like go back hundreds of years and you'll see many examples where people will operate without having any experience before and that person might die eventually unless there's a doctor who treats them
Every doctor becomes a doctor by doing these practicals and than slowly moving towards human where they'll operate and save lives.
I mean if you care about a cockroach or frog being experimented don't even go to surgical doctor, and maybe find a treatment online and treat yourself.
It's a fact that cockroach can survive a nuclear bomb but are you going to survive that too? Nah, they won't extinct but we'll at some point.
For the Sake of Science or the Humanity?
There's a difference, like if experiments are being done on these rats or other animals involve no benefits to other human and causing particular species life endanger than it's not for the humanity, not for the science as well.

There's always an outcome that too calculated results, if something goes wrong..it needs to be corrected immediately
That's how we have found cure to diseases and have many medicines, vaccines to viruses that spreads and kills many people.
These experiments aren't anywhere close to animal cruelty or whatever they name it... Since science is what is keeping most of endangered animals safe and trying to keep wildlife healthy and safe for the future generations.
Wrapping Up...
There's still a lot of mystery on this earth that needs to be explored and all these experiments is going to make it easy to find those answers as we progress ahead.
Maybe in next ten years or so this whole experiments for the sake of science becomes much more better with the help of Ai.
