I just want to share a few thoughts on the topic and I hope no one is offended by my thoughts. Well if you are, kindly say so in the comment box so we could share a hug after our fight.
Corruption occurs when there is an unequal meting out of true Justice to every man according to the law.
People often consider corruption as nature or compared to the sinful nature, however, there is always the tendency for a human being to err against the law and that is why where there is no law there is no crime. Criminalism exists because a law says it is a crime.
However, corruption on the other hand is when the necessary Justice that should be measured out to the criminal is not meted out appropriately or to the full term of the law as stated.
It will then mean that some people are indulging in criminal practices and going scot-free and hence others that are participating in this same practice are being withheld by the law and punished.
This goes to say that some people are as if they were above the law where it should not be said or heard that any is threading above the law.
So when the law of the Land is not able to visit upon whosoever crosses the lines of Justice then corruption has been invited into the society, such that everyone will begin to operate in ways that will evade the law from getting them.
Corrupt practices thrive when the law is weak or when the law is weakened by human efforts. The aim of corruption is not money, the aim of corruption is not to be rich it, is to avoid being caught.
It is hiding your trash in a bag filled with gold and pretending that it is trash. Even lying to the authorities that it is trash. It is disguising as a woman in a foreign land in order not to be caught by the authority. it is pretending to be sick and admitted in the hospital when the Judge has called upon your attention to answer an accusation in the court. It is stretching out a backhand or folded money into the hands of the authorities for you to go scot-free without your full certification and licence to drive on the road.
You see, all of these examples show that there can be a way out if our law enforcement also includes a way to catch criminals in the deed.
No country is not stained with some levels of corrupt practices in the world. However, in Nigeria, we seem to top the table with every corner and nook field with someone culturally engaging in criminal activities or because the law cannot reach them.
Therefore this has led to Masses struggling and needs very little means of livelihood where the leaders have cornered their ways to divide the provision that should be made for them to survive upon. hence we see sprouts of criminals out of the Communities of masses trying to make ends meet and then ended up being caught because they have no way to either weaken the law or hide from it.
Now, this leads us to consider why exactly the law could have been weekend. Our constitution as we all know was practically borrowed initially and then we began to modify and edited to suit our environment. This was one of the leading factors in the corrupt attitude of our leaders today. They found certain loopholes that do not apply to our environment and which sponsored the ability, to begin with, the law and escape being punished. However, with the introduction of the EFCC, ICPC and all the governments lead independent Parastatal we have been able to expose certain corrupt leaders and put them in the open glare of the people for the punishment that they are going to receive. However, there are many more out there when will they be caught?.
The current president of our nation had promised from the inception of his tenure that corruption will be his first item to tackle however it seems that corruption has only wound in his reign and we are left with "who else can help us?"
As the forthcoming election approaches, we are driving into a sea of two sides, we are to choose between the two walls of the same materials. May God help us.
