I don't know if it is a coincidence that I recently published a post about inflation in the Leofinance community.
In that post, I wrote a few things about my experience with inflation and how I think it affects everyone.
At some point, I was telling myself that we have no control over inflation. However, through my research, I discovered that the government has a way to control it.
Inflation in Nigeria is so bad right now, I have been seeing a lot of people who talk about giving up. Some say that they wish I travel to their village to stay. According to them, life is easier there. Is it, really?
I was born and brought up in Lagos, so I am not the type that would suggest going to the village.
Besides, the inflation in the country is not peculiar only to a particular place, almost everyone is affected by it.
In my previous post about inflation, I used Enugu as an example. The prices of foodstuffs continue to increase in price.
The prices of everything have doubled, even transportation. That's why when traders sell, they calculated all that too so that they can make a profit.
Many traders have closed down their shops because they can't afford to buy that expensive produce. Rather, they prefer to close down and with til the prices of things go down.
The ones who have a strong hustling spirit would look for other traders they can collaborate with so as to contribute money together and buy items that they need.
How have I been coping?..
Trust me, it has not been easy. There are times I create a budget, but then I am forced to spend more than I had budgeted because of inflation. This happens especially with food.
Even our monthly data subscription isn't left out.
All through last week, I complained about how Airtel network service providers frustrated customers with their data plan.
Actually, I confirmed from another network that the prices of the data plans are almost the same. However, the difference is in how long they last.
I didn't have the money to do my monthly data subscription when it was due, and because of that, I went for the weekly package.
Most people I tell would always think that I have so much money and that's why I spend almost 10 USD on data subscriptions. But, that isn't correct.
I feel that doing a moderate monthly subscription would save me from spending money every week. From my calculation, that one costs more, so it's better to just choose a moderate plan that is affordable and would last for a month.
This is how I cope when it comes to data subscription, it is one thing I can't do without, and I hate getting disconnected in the middle of the month.
Generally, I always make sure that I have my targetted amount saved already, and no matter how much I spend from what is left, I make sure that more money is coming in.
Imagine spending a lot of money and nothing is coming in? That would be a disaster no one wishes to experience.
In summary, in order to cope with inflation in this country, don't lose guard and make sure to keep earning.
