When I think of a healthy environment, the first thing that comes to my mind is cleanliness. To me, a healthy environment is one where everything is neat, organized, and free from dirt, dust, cobwebs, and any form of clutter. I feel at peace when my surroundings are tidy—like when the floor is clean, items are in their proper place, and the air feels fresh.
I currently stay in a private hostel, and to be honest, I would say my environment is fairly healthy. One thing I appreciate is that we have cleaners who help us take care of the general compound. Almost every morning, they come around to sweep the front of our rooms, pick up any trash lying around, and make sure the shared areas like the toilets are clean. They don’t clean inside our rooms, though—that part is totally up to us.
Now, the funny thing is, I stay in a room with four other crazy people, and as you can imagine, everyone has their own lifestyle and mindset when it comes to cleaning. Sometimes, nobody wants to take the broom or even lift a finger to tidy up. They always expect someone to start sweeping or even clean the entire room for them. Just yesterday, for example, the room was beginning to look messy—dust on the floor, pieces of paper, and random things scattered around. Everyone kept avoiding the responsibility, so at the end of the day, we agreed to pay one of the cleaners to come and sweep and mop the room for us. He did a great job, and after that, we just gave him some money to appreciate his effort.
Also, this morning, the grasses in front of our room were trimmed, and that honestly changed the entire vibe of the area. Everything looked more organized and pleasant. It felt good to step outside and not be greeted by tall, bushy grasses. The fresh smell of cut grass and the fact that trees are planted around also help make the environment feel more breathable and suitable to live in.
Inside our room, we try to keep things clean as much as we can. We have a trash bin, which helps us manage waste properly, and we empty it regularly to avoid any foul smell or dirt piling up. Although we might not be the most hygienic room in the hostel, I’d say we’re doing pretty well. It's not 100% perfect, but we’re close enough.
Overall, I’d say my environment is fairly healthy. There’s always room for improvement, of course. Maybe if we were more disciplined about keeping our room clean without always relying on outsiders, it would be even better. But for now, with clean surroundings, trimmed grasses, presence of trees, and good ventilation, I think we’re doing okay.
At the end of the day, i would say an healthy environment really just comes down to one thing: care. If people genuinely care about where they stay, they’ll do the little things—clean up, maintain order, and create a space where everyone can feel comfortable and safe.
